Adding music videos to the music section would be the easiest fix, in my opinion. I am more interested in the metadata for artist, etc. than I am director or year of the music video. Since the music info seems to be somewhat stable, this should mean simply accepting the video files as acceptable content in those sections.

While this might be an easy fix, it is less than ideal. The problem appears to be the lack of a decent online database to scrape from. Also this topic exists in other forums, so the following is a bit scattered. Here is the topic covered under the general forum https://forums.plexapp.com/index.php/forum/129-general/
+1 would love a better structure for both concert and documentary releases.

And I think this is where we disagree. There is no ideal database for music videos that would catalog directors, time of release, etc. There is, however, an excellent source for the songs represented in the videos. We have a choice to either wait for the first or accept the second. Since well over 90% of the work is already done for the second, it warrants review.

I get where you are coming from, it would be a start. Its just annoying that I can enter everything manually (taking hours of work) or somehow Plex could attempt to categorize music videos - most of my manual input is downloadable from wiki. As an aside, I am not that interested in directors and release time, all I want is a brief synopsis and album art.

I +1'ed this too. Music Videos seems to be a much neglected subject in many media hubs ... either because there isn't enough popularity or maybe there just isn't enough metadata sources?
Just had to rebuild my server after a power spike - I am now looking at hours of manual music video singles data entry. Very frustrating, as all the info is in the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/
This just needs to be added as a category, or some ability to scrape from where you want! Please like the first post if you want this feature.
Keep Voting to get this on the radar screen of the developers. We just need to either add a new section that has http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Club_Can't_Handle_Me as the metadata source,, or at least add the wiki as a scraper that you can select under the custom edit.
I am all for a good way to scrape and organise my music video collection.
I have just posted a request from the ninjas regards copying one sections metadata, this is to save me from repeating the entire manual entry of metadata on to my new server.
https://forums.plex.tv/topic/94733-move-one-sections-metadata-appdata-too-new-computer/
I've just been adding metadata to the files themselves so that it just scans in instantly. It's still a PITA, but definitely made it easier when I switched to a different server. Of course, it doesn't have all of the info, but I just use Subler on the mac to input this info. Then I always have the Title (Name) of the song, the artist, Genre, Release Date, Description and Director.
But yes, this all sucks compared to having a centralized database for all of this info.
I'm Never sure why this request isn't wanted by more people. Having manually added metadata to my music video collection, I noticed today that a third of my library had lost it's album art. Not sure why this happens occasionally, but slightly annoying since I have to spend another hour putting it all back together again. Please Plex Devs, surely adding another metadata source (wiki) and library category (Music Videos) would not be too hard.
I literally just came here to request this feature. PLUS ONE! And have a randomizer feature so I can just set it up and let 'er rip! And a way to directly add videos from youtube, just like the queue.

Leejk - Can you please like the first post I made, as this what pushes the feature up the hierarchy.
Thanks Leejk, I figure that once we get this to around 100 likes, then it should start to gain some traction
Yeah. I've just spent some of the morning trying to get music videos into my Plex.
Trying to get plex to read my nfo files in the following format was an execise infrustration:
Sure...I'd like a full on Music Video category with its own particular metadata handling. But even the small change of allowing me to edit the Actor metadata for video files would help with the music videos I have in MKV format. With mp4 files it reads that in fine, with the artist being being listed in actor which I guess is passable.
Being able to edit Actor through the Plex interface would even be helpful for folks wanting to list the cast for other video files that aren't in the various video/movie/tv databases that Plex can scrape.
