[Implemented] Pin Collections to Home Screen

I have worked to get beautiful collection posters… but collections are burried within the Plex app… I would like to see more prominence for collections (and other items) and the ability to pin more items to the home screen.
-Collections

  • IMDb Top 250
  • Most suggestions (like Netflix).

I second this - would be a great feature to pin collections for time of year, Halloween, Christmas, etc.

Please add this! Would be huge.

Agreed, this feature would be amazing.

I too would like to see this feature. Not just the ability to add a ‘Collections’ row to the home screen but the ability to pin a specific collection as its own row. This would allow me to, for example, add a collection called ‘Kid A’s Favourite Movies’ to their home screen so all their favourites are right there when they log in. Or a ‘Recommended for Mum’ collection to her home screen so whenever I add a new movie that I think she’d like, I can add it to that collection and have it appear right on her home screen.

This is precisely how I’m using collections now, and I was amazed to find you can’t pin them to home screen. Would love this feature.

+1 I can’t believe they didn’t roll this out when they updated the homescreen in the first place

Yes please! This would solve a lot of other requests I’ve seen in various posts (including myself) where you want to combine certain “Movies” and “TV Shows” into one quick access place. I use Categories and Genres but these require changing the views or filters. They are not wife/kid friendly like a library is on the menu.

Common ones

  • Documentaries (TV Shows and Movies)
  • Recorded DVR (TV Shows and Movies)
  • Kids (TV Shows and Movies).

I just found out a bout the collections feature yesterday and I wanted to pin them to the home screen… Couldnt figure it out then I found this thread.

Would love to see this feature.

It would be great to be able to pin a Collection of my Kid’s favorite movies to the sidebar. This would save me from having to go search for “Ice Age” and “Madagascar” every time he wants to watch a movie.

Second this.

The ‘work-around’ - until your Feature Request hits pay dirt:

Adjust the Sort Title in the Collection and have it - and the ones you want up front - be up front. Then the other 162 Collections just fall in line Alphabetically, according to the name I gave them.

I made the first one “001”, the second one “005” - and so on - so when I need to sneak another one in - I have room. Also “001” through how ever many of those you have are very likely to remain up front. So far.

This is extreme Collection Abuse, but my Movie Library ONLY has Collections showing (I don’t need the Collections Tab) - and every movie is in one, or more Collection:

Sure wouldn’t mind more Collection Features.
For now - we do whatever we have to.
(pardon the mess - the Graphics Designer is old - he’ll finish, eventually…lol)

You still have to use numbering the sorting title of every collection for it to show before any movies in the library-view right?

Yes. That’s the purpose of the Sort Title field.

I only need to list a few first. The others just mingle.

It’s a work around, that works. Having a Westerns Collection I can click once on to see all the Westerns, saves the 31 clicks on my Roku to drill for Westerns.

Pretty good solution for me. I’d love a letter stack in a Collection with 288 Movies in it, but that’s not coming soon either, is it?

lol

Speaking the Sort Title field:
Since we can’t have Collections in Collections - that big Sci-Fi Sets, Sequels Collection has, as the name might suggest, Sci-Fi Sets and Sequels - and I do want those Movies Side-by-Side in the list - so the Sort Title field for the Movie does just that (when I change the Advanced Collection Display Order to Alpha, not Release):

ALL the Batman Movies (Catwoman/Joker too) have “Batman YEAR” as their Sort Title field - and that puts them side-by-side, all in order.

Star Wars requires a special Sort Title Field - 'cause their ‘Release Dates’ are all out of whack (as we know)… “Star Wars 001” through ‘the next 100 Star Wars movies’ will probably be all I need (at my age, but you younger guys might want to use 4 digits…lol):

Yea, setting a Sort Title field manually - is so not a thing - I don’t even consider it manual labor - it’s just part of gettin’ the job done.

Thanks for posting this - this workaround is pretty close to a full solution. This helps make it a Happy Father’s day for me and my kids!

(depending on your age - that might not mean anything to ya…lol)

Happy Father’s Day.

I’d like to see an option to have Collections listed on the left side menu too, along with the Libraries, and it would contain all the Collections created in both the Movie and TV Shows libraries.

Movies
TV Shows
Collections
Music
Pictures

I would really like collections to be pin-able as a Library on the left side as well.
Collections and/or Playlists that can be used as Dynamic Libraries. Please?

+1 on this, I’ve been working on how to expose a subset of my episodes and movies. Collections fit the bill but they’re too buried in the libraries… pinning a specific collection would be perfect!

Related: Dynamic Libraries and/or Pinnable playlists

Actually, no you don’t!

I use collections for different purposes. For getting high priority collections to the top of the collections list, I put a pound sign at the start of it, like a hashtag:

# Dad's Favorites

For 2nd and 3rd level priority, I use an asterisk * or a plus + prior to the collection name. These will all show up before the conventional collections in alphabetic sorting.
