Music Library Embedded Artwork

Server Version#: 1.18.0.1944
Player Version#: Plex Web 4.10.1
I have been struggling to set up my music library for the past few days. I am unable to change the file structure to conform to plex’s naming convention for music. Due to this I have the embedded tags all created and pedantically clean (including album artwork) and the library needs to only use that data.
When I create the library all the Metadata is all pulled in properly with the exception of any artwork. What am I doing wrong?
Below are my advanced settings used when creating the library.
“Local Media Assets (artists)” is first in my agents list along with “Local Media Assets (Albums)”
Import from itunes= false
Include in dashboard = true
Album sorting = Library Default
Prefer Local Metadata = true
store track progress = false
include related content from shared libraries = false
artists bios = true
album reviews and critic ratings = true
Popular Tracks = true
concerts = true
Genres = Embedded tags
Album Art = Local Files Only
Scanner = Plex Music Scanner
Agent = Personal Media artists

Is the artwork embedded in the files, or sidecar images in the folders? If sidecar, what are the filenames?

Wow, Thanks for the quick reply. The artwork is embedded in the files not sidecar images.

Wondering if Plex is expecting a file (folder.jpg, cover.jpg, etc) and doesn’t use the embedded cover art.

It’s a little ambiguous and contradictory, the option to use embedded tags implies it should use the embedded images, but the option to use local files for images suggests there needs to be an image file.

I tested with a subset of my music library. I tried 3 new libraries changing the album art drop down to each option, “Plex Music Only”, “Local Files Only”, “Both Plex Music and Local files”. My library is stored on a NAS so to rule out any weird file systems permissions issues I also did these three tests with the content on the local machine. It appears all these test libraries are identical and none have successfully pulled in the embedded album artwork.

In theory, if Plex is looking for local art, it picks sidecar files first, because they tend to be higher resolution. If none is found, it goes to embedded art. If none found, it goes online (unless you chose “Local files only”).

One thing: The ID3 standard (for tagging mp3 files) allows for multiple images to be embedded in files. You can specify what each image is (artist, front cover, back cover, etc.) However, unless things have changed, Plex will only see one of them, and it may not be the right one.

In reviewing my library none of my files have more than one embedded images. There are a few that have none, perhaps that is a problem. Is there a place i could be looking in the logs for more information which could point to solution to the problem I am having?

After much more review I have discovered a way for the album artwork to be loaded into Plex for my music library with the settings listed above.
Once all the music is loaded all of the metadata reflects the metadata from the files. The artwork is still missing. The solution is to select the options on the album and launch the Match dialog.
In that dialog will be the name of the album (pulled from the tags). If you select that album nothing happens. However if you select the Auto Match drop-down and select “Personal Media Artists” The artwork loads.
Perhaps someone can tell me what I am missing to get this to happen automatically?
