[Implemented] Support flat folder structure for music

As stated in the “Adding Music Media From Folders” support article, using a flat file list of tracks does not work well at all in Plex. How to address this problem has been asked several times on this forum and AFAIK no solution is working, despite perfect embedded metadata.

My feature suggestion would be to add a new ‘flat’ music scanner (so it doesn’t break the existing scanner which work fairly well). If that makes it easier to implement, just use local metadata.

We would be free of constraints to organize our music. It would lower the time needed to set up a music library in plex for a smooth user experience. I also think of newcomers as I believe not everyone want to spend hours organizing / tagging files (even with good tools). And it’s not just a matter of pedantry, there’s a lot of practical uses for this. For example, some hardware won’t play well or with heavy limitations with the usual artist / album folder structure (music streamers, etc…).

Just released to the Plex Pass channel today, support for flat folders has been implemented. Non-Plex Pass users will see it in the near future. I gave it a go today, and it worked pretty well.
