[Implemented] Treat multi-disc albums as a single album

+1

^^ What they all said.

I would also like to see this implemented.

+1 - I Would like this feature.   Pointed it at my itunes library and was a little disappointed with the results.   Having multi-disc albums appear as 1 would be the 1st step.

While we wait for this to get fixed...

Does anyone know how to get Last.FM to recognize both discs? Right now all my albums with 2 discs show the same set of song titles. The disc number doesn't appear to be communicated to Last.FM so it just starts over at the beginning for the second disc.

+1 for the disc field and +1 for the Compilation field.

Any chance a PLEX developer can chime in?

+1 - multi-disc Opera CDs are a total mess with the way Plex does its track handling at the moment.

This is one the basic features it's a shame that this feature is not been added.

Can at least a dev reply to this?

The devs don’t reply to feature requests. They are never going to promise anything or debate the importance you hold on a particular feature

+1 from me too. If Album and Album Artist have the same values it should be considered a single Album no matter how many discs (Disc#) it contains.

My organization is all files on Album in the same folder, proper Album value (no disc info) and Disc# tagged if multiple discs exist. Plex separates this into separate Albums resulting in up to 16 entries for a single Album when it's seen as a single Album in other software.

Fair enough, though I don't consider this a feature request, I consider it a bug report.

so much this — it would be perfect if you could implement a toggle like this

because currently:

ugh.

I do wish that Plex would give proper support to multi-disc albums. Both Xbox Music and MediaBrowser 3 do, given the proper folder structure and use of ID3 "disc#" tags.

Both of these understand a folder structure of the form:

\Music Library\
  \Artist name\
   \Album name\   <- a single disc Album
    \Track 1\
    \Track 2\
     ...
    \Track n\
    \Album name\  <- a multi-disc Album
     \Disc 1\
      \Track 1\
      \Track 2\
       ...
      \Track n\
     \Disc 2\
      \Track 1\
      \Track 2\
       ...
      \Track n\
      ...
     \Disc n\
      \Track 1\
      \Track 2\
       ...
      \Track n\

Plex still does not understand the multi-disc form of Folder structure, but displays separate entries for each disc in the Album. Somewhat Very annoying.

Been thinking about this for a while and have now decided, seeing as Plex aren't going to address the Disc # field, I've decided that the Track numbers from 101 - 121 or 201 - 221 is the only way to consolidate the Albums into one and improve loading times.

I'm using MediaMonkey to drill through all my tags and update them to put Albums into an order.

I'm removing the Disc # number, but in future, if required, because the CD number is part of the Track, it should be quite easy to redo them again (I hope).

Most albums available now are coming from Digital Downloads are starting to come away from multi CD formats anyway - or at least numbering them from 1 - 42.

As mentioned previoulsly, It appears to be a bug/feature that the Devs are not to worried about addressing yet.

You watch though, as soon as I change all 40,000 of my tracks, Plex will address it. Just my luck.

Does your method work reliably? I use Musicbrainz so could also change my track numbering (I currently have it set to number as 1-01, 2-01 for different tracks)

I thought that Plex read tags first and foremost which is what made me think that just track numbering wouldn't work.

Drives me potty that they have not addressed this issue - I even mentioned it to them on Twitter and they acknowledged that they are aware of the issue.

It must be more difficult to fix than we realise or it would have been done by now!

Personally, I don't think it's particularly difficult, given that most other media software can handle multi-disc albums just fine. Even the venerable Windows Media Center can do it, and that's been around since 2001.

I think it's simply down to Plex's priorities. They seem to be addressing the movie and video market first and foremost. Music and photos are just very much further down the list. They might get the occasional crumb, but that's about it.
