I have been using Plex for music for years and never had a problem with this , even as recent as November last year. I like to drop a batch of songs in one folder each month to make a playlist .I used to have every folder in proper structure but plex doesn’t allow you to add different folders to playlists so I removed all the files from folders and dumped them together in one folder , that way I can add all files in folder to playlist on the web.

This worked fine for years. Recently I added some songs same way and they are being tagged as various artists (songs are from albums not compilations). The tags are correct as I play them with any other player and show fine. Why is plex ignoring the tags ? Is there a workaround for this ? I want to be able to keep all files in one folder. I have a monthly folder going back to 2013 done that way.

Also I did a test and took one of the existing folders that are tagged correctly, copied all files to new folder and they were tagged wrong. So it’s not file issue it’s plex issue. Any suggestions ?

I got the same problem. An it was solved using last.fm agent instead of “plex music agent” make some tests and you will see.

Thanks, this actually works. I did try changing agent before and scanning metadata but it didn’t change anything, however when I actually removed the folder and re-added with new agent set it filled out correct info. Thank you again.

I have just started using plex for music a few weeks ago. i have a lot of singles grouped by style or as playlist in a folder. I finally figured out the last.fm setting and set all my mp3 files contributing artists to Various Artists to try and have plex recognize my folders of singles as an album. this worked. until yesterday. i have tried toggling back to plex music, removed/readded the content, no luck. now i am attempting to see if editing with mp3tag (first time using this as well) will help get to a permanent solution. any ideas on what went wrong or the best way to use tagging software?
