I’m wondering if anyone has tried to import NextPVR recordings to the Plex library; I can’t seem to get Plex to recognize them as TV shows. Here’s what I did:
- Set up NextPVR to record shows and write them to a location on my Plex server host
- Create a new Library of type “TV Shows” and point it to the root location of the NextPVR recordings
- Scan the library. It comes up empty.
NextPVR is writing files with the .ts extension, and it puts them in a folder using the show name. So, recording “The Chase” creates a folder under the root named “The Chase” (seems good), and creates 2 files per recording, one is the .ts file, the other is a XML description. e.g. I end up with files of this name:
The Chase_20200712_20582159.ts
The Chase_20200712_20582159.xml
Obviously, the file naming is not correct, which means I’m not going to get episode description meta-data, and I can kind-of live with that if only I could get Plex to even recognize that there is a .ts video file in there which is playable, which must be an episode of “The Chase”, but it doesn’t know which one, but when I scan the folder, it comes back with zero results.
Here is the interesting thing. If instead I tell Plex that this is a Movie library, it finds the file and allows me to play it as an individual video clip.
So, Plex seems to be OK with the fact that it is a .ts file, but it just refuses to recognize it as a TV show.
Any ideas anyone? Is anyone else using NextPVR to record shows that they watch in Plex?
I noticed a really old scanner plugin here:
But I can’t use it in the latest version if Plex because there is no longer any option to add any custom Agent or Scanner in the advanced tab for TV Shows, yet for some reason it’s there for Movies, is that a mistake?
Thanks
