Plex doesn't see mpg files in a folder after adding that folder to the TVSHOW library

Is there something I need to do for Plex to see those recorded files? I ran a scan, tried updating the metadata. At a loss here. -Bill

I have read that, its not actually relevant to my issue. I am not worried about it naming the shows correctly. It doesn’t see them at all. I would be glad to see them as something wrong. At least then I could fix something.

If you don’t lay ‘em out in the manner Plex REQUIRES for a TV Show Library - you won’t see nuthin’.

Show/
...Season XX/
......Episodes

Period.

Maybe an Other Videos Library is what you want?

It has no issue seeing a couple hundred mp4 tvshows all thrown into a single directory, its has a hard time figuring out what they are. But it see’s them and I can go fix any that i want to get the metadata correctly. Are you saying mpg files are something special?

I believe the latest Beta server version has addressed EPG metadata overwrites

I just setup one of them folders as “Other Videos” and it see’s them just fine and added the metadata, and it looks correct. WTF? I just added the other two folders I had under TVSHOWS and it pulled down the metadata for all 120 shows, a cursory inspection looks like it even got the correct data. Why would anyone use the tvshows library when the Other Videos just works without the hassle of their crazy folder fetish?

I’m not sure about the metadata overwrite. how does that figure in?

it has nothing to do with them being mpg files is what they were getting at.

if a tv show file does not have the S01E01 in file name ( or something else that might be determined to be the episode number) they will be ignored by the TV show scanner.

OMG. And I just renamed that library TVSHOWS (OV) and moved it to the top of the menu. TVSHOWS now show up. You cannot make this stuff up. It really seemed odd the first time I read that file folder nonsense a few months ago as I hadn’t ever needed that with other DVRs. It appears whomever wrote the Other Video’s code knew what they were doing. This is Too Freaking Funny. -Bill

They all have that in the file names. I moved back to Sagetv for recording tvshows as its bulletproof. I am going to use Plex for playback on other clients. Something that seems really odd with Plex is their 30 second skip takes about 3 times longer than Sages 30 second skip. Its very noticeable, my wife even said something about it to me. Same with the back 10 second skip. Its like they wrote it in fast forward mode instead of jumping back or forward.
