Hi. I’ve just signed up for lifetime so I can use my HDHomerun tuner. I already have a directory on a drive which has been recording .ts files for some time now.
When I point Plex DVR to that folder, it can’t seem to see ANY of the previously recorded HDhomerun files. It CAN see NEW recordings. Since both old and new are in the .ts format, why CAN’T Plex see the old recordings when a library scan is done?
Thanks
How are the old ones named?
Without spaces, using dashes and numbers following the titles. The front-end for tv guide selection of the HDhomerun tuners is done through SageTV.
Plex really wants you to use its very structured file naming format:

I suspect SageTV does not follow this format. You might be better off creating a new DVR library for your newly recorded items.
That would have been my first thought as well, but PLEX found everything Sage had recorded in two other directories, using the Movie and TV Library creation tools.
Maybe it’s something the Live TV - DVR creation tool doesn’t like…
Does this third SageTV directory have both Movies and TV shows? Plex won’t allow you to mix the two.
The third directory ONLY has programs recorded off the HDHomerun tuners, but, the recordings are instigated from within the SageTV Server gui interface. And, PLEX does seem to recognize BOTH movies and TV shows from my SageTV, Hauppauge tuner directories if the library was created with the MOVIE tool. If created with the TV tool, ONLY TV shows are noted. So weird.
And my question remains: does this directory have both TV Shows AND Movies?
If so, Plex will not operate correctly.
Yes, it does contain both. How will Plex NOT operate correctly; with TV libraries? Movie libraries?
In order for Plex to properly identify files, TV Shows (regardless of where they come from, recorded, ripped, whatever) must be in their own folder structure, separate from Movies. You can not have Movie files and TV Show files in the same directory, it will not work with Plex.
More info here:
Well, it may not work by the book, but if I make a library using the “Movie” template, Plex sees everything in that dir.
If I use the “TV” template, Plex just sees the tv shows in the dir.
Okay.
Just keep in mind that Plex changes over time. If it is doing what you want now that is great. It may not continue to work that way after some future upgrade and you may have to go back and reorg your libraries. If you are good with that, no worries.
