Importing iTunes library is broken

well, something is definitely broken. Again… I’ve been able to finally get iTunes import to work a month ago. In the meantime I’ve updated Plex Server to the most recent version. I’ve made some edits to my iTunes library. After that, I rescanned that specific library in Plex. I also exported the iTunes library xml file from Apple’s Music app. And again, I made sure the path settings in that xml file were correct, just like it was when I finally got the iTunes import to work a month ago.

But now? Nothing…

Never mind the Couldn't rename file bla bla bla error, as that hasn’t been the culprit before either, as I described in an earlier post. The sqlite database is now empty, as to my surprise. I have tried rolling back to a previous version of Plex Server, that didn’t “fix” the iTunes import. I have even restored the com.plexapp.plugins.itunes.db* database files from a backup from 3 weeks ago. Those had content, I checked what was in it before I started Plex Server again. And what surprised me, is that when Plex Server was up and running: it had deleted the contents of the iTunes db.

After spending a day troubleshooting, there must have been an error in the updated Library.xml file. I have checked differences, disabled all plugins, rebooted, recreated music libraries and so on. I now used a different tool than before to correct the path. That doesn’t make any sense. Instead of vim I now used bbedit. But it could very well be that the iTunes library export I made yesterday from the Music app, was somehow different enough from the new one I made today that this made the difference? If you ask me, it’s very sensitive stuff… Debug logging is very helpful but why the iTunes.db files were emptied, would be a bit more helpful :grin:
