A couple of months ago I updated my Plex server from my old Intel Core 2 Duo Mac Mini to the new M1 version. That actually went pretty well but I never managed to get the Apple Music playlist importing to work. I’ve manually generated the required XML file that Apple music no longer generates and put it into the path specified in iTunes library XML path under plugins, but when I try to “Import from iTunes”, a big honking red and black requestor pops up stating “Something went wrong. Make sure the server is available and try again.”
In the media server logs, I see “Database file not found at preference location: /Users/adamh/Music/iTunes Media/Music/ (Undefined error: 0)” and “iTunes import: didn’t find any XML files to load.” followed by some debug indicating a failed SQL read of the file it couldn’t find.
The problem with not finding the XML file is that I have just plastered the location with copies of the XML file in both the iTunes Media and the Music directories (called things like “iTunes Music Library.xml”, “iTunes Library.xml” and “Library.xml” in case there was some issue with the name not being exact. The file definitely has content so it’s not a case of it being empty, and the format and permissions appear to be correct too.
I thought that perhaps it’s looking for the old .itdb and .itl files that can no longer be generated but other people indicate that they’ve had some success here. However, all those threads are closed so I can’t ask for more details.
Suggestions?
