Impossible to add movies to library on Nvidia Shield

Server Version#: last server for Shield
Player Version#: 3.73.1

I just received my new Shield and installed PMS. When I try to add movies to my library from my clients (Win PC - Android tablet and Android phone) nothing happens and the library remains empty. My files are uploaded to a network share on Synology NAS. On the share every movies are on a single folder. The files are .mkv. I read several posts that report similar problems and I tried different solutions without success. I tried to manually add the network resource using different methods (\nas\ share - \nas\volume1\share - \ipaddress\share - \ipaddress\volume1\share - smb://ipaddress/share etc. etc. etc.).
The strange thing is that when I use Kody I can easily reach my shares on the NAS both in nfs and in smb, while with Plex nothing works. Both the Shield and the NAS are on the same wired network, and on the NAS the right on the share are correctly assigned to the users. What can I do? Thank you.

Have you tried mounting the network drives to your Shield?

Yes, and also here I have problem I can’t mounting any network sharing. I posted a message also on Nvidia support forum.
But the strange is that with Kody all works fine. Why with Plex no?

The Shield does not come with a native way to view network drives. This ability is added by individual apps. Kodi has their own as does Plex. If you can’t mount network drives that would indicate a bigger problem. When trying to mount your network drives, does the Shield see the NAS? Do you get any error messages.

Yes, when I try to mount the share I can see the Nas and other PC of my network, but when I select the Nas and I put the user and password I have a “Connection failed” error. I try with different users, domain user, Nas internal user but the result is always the same. I have this problem with every share on the network not only with the Nas.

And you are sure you put the name and password correct? It is case sensitive.

Yes I put the right user and in all possible type. User or domain\user or nasname\user but nothing works.

Flavio,
I don’t know the nvidia but I am one of the engineers here at Plex and provide support on Synology.

A few thoughts on nvidia:

You are attempting to access directly as \\ip\absolute\path.
Have you tried mounting as \\ip\sharename ? e.g. \\ip.addr.of.syno\movies and not include \volume1 ? Yes, synology usually requires it but that might be different on the nVidia .

Also make sure the firewall is disabled OR you’ve allowed all the protocols and advanced features correctly for SMB. in Control Panel - File Services on the Syno.

Completely reversing the thinking:

  1. Put PMS on the Syno where it is best.
  2. Let the nVidia be the player.

The Shield will play just about everything meaning the Syno sees it as a DirectPlay device

I just checked on my shield.

You have to get the shield to mount the server. shield settings (not plex) > storage

the nas should appear by name and ip when it scans for media servers. if it does not, then you need to fix that.

once you see the nas, connect to it, shield will ask if you want to connect as guest or user. if you have anonymous/guest access enabled on your nas, then just choose guest.

otherwise enter the applicable user credentials as indicated on the prompt.

obviously you will need to use a user/pass that is already setup on the nas. go create a plex/plex user if you desire and use that. or shield/shield. makes it easier to identify from the nas logs/admin what is accessing what.

If you get connection errors, then you need to make sure your server/nas is setup correctly, that ‘legacy network discover’ or ‘netbios discovery’ or something similar is enabled on the nas. this is the old windows broadcast method of name resolution.

you probably also need to ensure that global smb3 encryption is set to configure by share or auto, but NOT set to REQUIRED.

You may also want to try enable ip6/auto on both nas and shield.

I have no idea where, or what terminology your syno uses, but the above fixed my connection issues on my nas from my shield.

once the server is connected, you will see the shares but not navigate them.

shield should remember and connect to the server automatically.

the server will be mounted will show up as a local path for plex, you simply add that path to the applicable plex library and you should be done.

Solved!!!
The problem was the domain. I had a warning that Shield has problems connecting to network resources that are in domain, I have brought the nas out of the domain and everything works.

Thank you all for the answers.
