Hello!
Having a rather annoying issue with the PMS on my shield NOT detecting my mounted network drives.
When i attempt to change storage location i have 2 options to choose from in - both internal.
I can mount the drives on shield and access the files through ES File explorer and VLC. They play fine.
I have undergone a factory reset to attempt to use earlier versions but to no avail.
I have a WD MyCloud 4TB and a WD MyBook 2TB currently mounted.
The only thing i can think of is - maybe - these have been used in an another PMS once uppn a time.
Through Plex?
I can use the wd cloud for vlc and i can play media files through ES file manager, but plex couldnt find the network drive on Plex.
Also…advice from Nvidia shield forums suggest that NAS support for this doesnt exist yet.
The storage location you mention in your original post is only for Plex’s internal database, thumbnail images, metadata, and such. Not for your movies & other media. If you are using a 16GB Shield, at some point you may have to move PMS internal data to external storage, as the size of Plex’s database & other data will need more space. That is why the option exists.
Regarding accessing your media - movies, tv shows, etc:
Plex can absolutely read network mounted drives to access your movies, tv shows, and other media.
You mount the storage via the Shield settings, not via Plex: Settings -> Storage & Reset -> Mount Network Storage. The Shield supports SMB mounts. NFS is not supported.
Once you have successfully mounted the network storage, you can then create a library with Plex Media Server accessing said storage. When creating or editing a library, select “Browse for Media Folder” and then navigate to the desired area, just like with any library.
I have a Shield Pro running PMS. As it has a 500GB internal drive, I do not need to relocate Plex’s database, etc. My media is stored on a Synology DS918+. PMS accesses the media via SMB shares from the Synology.
I see…
Im assuming if the files from my NAS are not being detected by Plex, there is something wrong with the mounting of the drives…
Ill see if i cam figure out
Thanks FordGuy61.
