TLDR
Absolute Series Scanner (ASS) makes alternate naming conventions parsable for PMS and also allows for control over the whole process. In short, PMS is able to parse AniDB-style file naming.
Abstract
At present, PMS only supports TVDB-compatible file and directory names which is also described in the docs ( Naming Episodes and Naming Specials) this creates two main issues:
- Mixing media types within the scanned directory is not possible – This is a separate topic, but [Popular] Collection overhaul ideas provides a good overview why this should be a feature
- PMS is unable to understand other popular ways to structure media
If this is implemented, PMS will be able to scan any media type (movie, episode, special) into one library even if multiple naming schemes are used within one directory.
