Improve Suggestion for Collection Movies

Hello everybody!

It will be interesting to include new metadata tag fields to link movies in order to Prequel, Sequel, Reboot, Remake, Spin-off,…

At this moment I use the “Collection” Tag for this porpouse, but exists a problem when you have more than one collection item. This problem is that only are showed the movies linked to this first collection item, in the movie information page.

I suppose I understand the basic idea of linking movies that are somewhat related. I’m not sure if I understand your particular suggestion… would you mind elaborating a bit?

As for the limitation that Plex will only show one collection on a movie’s details page… there’s already an existing suggestion discussing how to resolve that.

Show ALL Collections for an item

When selecting a movie belonging to a few different collections, the info screen only shows one. Example (see photo): Silence of the Lambs is in our Collections of Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actor, and Best Actress, but only the Best Picture collection is shown on the info screen. All Collections should be shown in which an item appears. This is so obvious, I’m not sure to call it a feature request or a current bug. [screenshot]

My idea is to add new metadata fields for movies/series (Prequel, Sequel, Reboot, Remake, Spin-Off, …) as additional way to link with other movies/series, and show this relation on movie/series show page. Similar to Filmaffinity.

At this moment I use Collection field for these links between movies/series, but with this improve would be more clear and professional for user experience.

What do you think about it?

It feels like this could end up to be some kind of „relationship management“ where you end up with 1 movie/show being associated differently to different other movies/shows (possibly showing up on both ends… if A is a sequel to B, B is a prequel to A).

While certainly interesting, it seems a bit too much to me (UI overload, complexity…). But that’s just my personal 2ct.

One more thought… I’m not sure if there’s a conclusive repository providing all that granularity. Maintaining it all manually seems like a lot of extra work…

I’n not agree about UI overload, I think this information will continue in the same area that currently shows the collection movies and recommendations.

Not always the prequel-sequel is 1 to 1, sometimes can be more than 1 movie and/or show.

About a repository with this information, I think Filmaffinity could be an option.

Maintaining it manually is only for fanatics, lol. But, it would be a nice option to can edit manually if it’s necessary.
