can anybody suggest why incomplete files are showing in my library when I have set incomplete downloads to go to the “incomplete” folder on my desktop? They are in the “incomplete” folder but showing up in my plex library. Similarly, completed downloads are staying in the “incomplete” folder, despite also moving to the completed library folder. Strange.

You should not be pointing Plex to any downloads folder and instead use the main folder where they will finally reside. Edit you library and look what the folder paths are.
If it is pointing at an incomplete folder it might not be detecting when that changes or not running another scan and emptying trash after the scan depending on your settings. but again you should not point it at an incomplete downloads folder in the first place
Ah thanks although it is not Plex which is pointing to the folders but the client set to keep incomplete files in one folder and completed files in another. It’s been running smoothly for years and now isn’t.
I don’t know what client “it” is but does not sounds like has anything to do with Plex, so you should not post about it in this forum at all.
