Inconsistent Matching on Multi-Episode Files

Server Version#: 1.22.2.4282
Player Version#: Plex Web 4.55.0

I have many different files that contain multiple episodes within one file. On some of these, they appear to match correctly while on others they show as only the first episode on the list. Just some examples:

  • /Volumes/Plex/TV Shows/Scrubs/Season 6/Scrubs - S06E21-E22 - 480p - My Rabbit & My Point of No Return.mp4 - Shows only as S06E21
  • /Volumes/Plex/TV Shows/Brooklyn Nine-Nine/Season 4/Brooklyn Nine-Nine - S04E11-E12 - 1080p - The Fugitive.mp4 - Shows only as S04E11
  • /Volumes/Plex/TV Shows/Grey's Anatomy/Season 11/Grey's Anatomy - S11E22-E23 - WEBDL-1080p - She's Leaving Home & Time Stops.mp4 - Shows as two separate episodes
  • /Volumes/Plex/TV Shows/The Expanse/Season 3/The Expanse - S03E12-E13 - HDTV-720p - Congregation + Abaddon's Gate.mp4 - Shows as two separate episodes

I’ve tried to review the logs and I’m not seeing anything standing out at me, but also not sure where to look or even what specific log to look at. Any help or thoughts would be appreciated.

Those file names seem ok.
Have you checked the double-episodes from Scrubs and Brooklyn Nine-Nine for embedded metadata that might contain conflicting information?

There seems to be minimal amount of embedded metadata on the files, but not to the degree that I would expect it to conflict.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine has a title of “Fugitive, Pt. 1 & Pt. 2” embedded and Scrubs has a title of “Season 6, Episode 22: My Rabbit / My Point of No Return”. I’ll go ahead and remove all embedded data though just as a test.

Just to confirm, I cleared all of the embedded metadata and then did the Plex dance for the Scrubs episode. Still matching only as S06E21.
