The current Plex Movie Agent tags the country of Taiwanese movies as “Taiwan, Province of China,” which is incorrect – “Taiwan” would suffice completely.
I realize Plex is probably not at fault here but rather the metadata source, but is there something that can be done about this? Apart from being unnecessarily long and incorrect, it could be hurtful to Taiwanese users of Plex.
A political discussion is not the purpose of this post.
We base country naming (and country codes, etc.) on the ISO standard. In this case, it’s ISO 3166. Should the ISO standard change, then we would update to follow that.

What if we listed Palestine as “Palestine, Territory of Israel.”

That’s what companies that scrape data off from China-coerced NGOs and NPOs like ISO are doing, albeit inadvertently.
