Incorrect duplicates

I have several instances where the server is listing movies as duplicates when they simply aren’t. In most cases, the file names are similar (like Casino Royale (2006).mkv and Casino Royale (1966).mkv). In other cases, the files are less similar, but still related.

Question - is there a way to force plex to not view these as the same movies?

I’ve tried to rename files to be less similar, and this approach helps in some cases but not others.

Thanks!

After changing the file names to include the year, perform the Plex Dance with both versions.
Add only one of the versions at a time.

It also helps to not have all movie files in one common folder, but to create subfolders for each movie. (which also should be named Movie Title (year))

Yup, done the dance. And, in all of my remaining cases, the false dupes are either on separate drives or at least separate folders.

Are these all mkv files? Or are there also some mp4/m4v files among them?

Is there a .nfo file in the same folder as the video file? If there is, open it in a text editor and search for a IMDb ID (those always start with tt, followed by some numbers).
Then check if this IMDb ID is the correct one for this particular movie release
(replace the existing IMDb ID in this link with the one from the .nfo file: https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5586052 )

I see this every once in a while, and sometimes the file names are not even close.
I just go to the duplicate and split the files.
most of the time that fixes it,
note;
once in a while, very rarely, it will match the two files to the same movie name even though the file name is totally different, and does not show them as duplicates.
I unmatch the incorrect one and then rematch it manualy.

Thanks all… so the split seems to fix the problem in most cases. I somehow missed that feature (I was looking for something like that under the show info area and missed it in the upper level pulldown).
