Movie files showing up as duplicate of wrong movies

Server Version#: 1.23.3.4707
Player Version#:

I have about 10 movies that are not “matching” correctly.

One example:

I have “Ford v Ferrari” In my movies directory:

“/mnt/media3-active/Movies/Ford v Ferrari (2019) [1080p] [PG-13]/Ford v Ferrari (2019) [1080p][PG-13].mp4”

I then have another movie called Chance:

“/mnt/SG-ZCT2MDAP-8TG/movie-8tb/Chance (2020) [PG-13] - tt7915464/Chance (2020) [PG-13] - tt7915464.mp4”

Chance keeps getting put in as a duplicate of Ford v Ferrari

I have moved Chance out of my directories so Plex can’t see it, emptied the trash, then put it back in and it still sees it as the same movie.

Like I said, I have about 10 different movies doing this (and not always the same drives involved in these).

Any help in fixing this? I am even willing to update the database itself if that is required. I just need to know what and where to update

Thanks!

its been awhile but i think you can unmerge or separate those files into two distinct movies, then you would want to figure out which one is which and do fix match on it to make sure the right one is tied to the right data, i had “Halloween” do this due to the old one and the remake etc

Considering these are both mp4 files, I’d check the content of the embedded Title meta tag.

Also, when adding additional information to folder and file names, keep in mind that Plex will only ignore stuff within the first square bracket.
So avoid having two or more pairs of square brackets, like “Ford v Ferrari” has in the above screenshot.
