Hi there, noticed that the episode names for Bluey Season 3 all go a bit off from episode 40 onwards. All episodes are numbered the same as on TheTVDB, so wondering if this is a Plex server side issue? For example, on TVDB episode 41 is Stickbird, but Plex is registering it as Relax (Episode 40)
If you use TheTVDB as your primary reference, you need to tell Plex to use the Episode Ordering “TheTVDB (Aired)”.
You can set this as a library default in the properties of your tv show library, on the Advanced tab.
The library default can be overridden for each individual tv show, in the properties of the show, again on the Advanced tab.
Alternatively, you could “do the right thing” and report all instances of wrong links to TMDB administrators, but that is tedious and could take some time.
Hitting the same issue, using TVDB with Aired as my episode ordering but names at the end of Season 3 are still off. Why would it matter what linkage there is between TVDB and TMDB? I’m not using TMDB at all, just TVDB for Bluey
Plex consolidates metadata from multiple sources (imdb, tmdb, tvdb and some others). As it’s consolidated one of the ways they do this is by using the episodes linkage between tmdb & tvdb for adjusting episode ordering within plex. TMDB is the default for plex.
You CANNOT tell plex to just use tmdb or tvdb metadata. All you can do is reorder the episodes and the metadata plex has per episode which is why it’s needed.
I’ll take a look at this show myself tomorrow at the tmdb and see if stuff needs fixing …
FYI… I looked over s03 of bluey and I can see the moderators have fixed a bunch of incorrect id linking tmdb to tvdb. These changes only happened in the last 24 hours so give it another 3-5 days for plex ingests these updates and then report back with anything that is not correct after doing a metadata refresh on your server.
interesting I knew Plex used multiple data sources but i thought if you explicitly selected one of them, like TVDB (aired), it would honor exactly that metadata. It kinda makes me curious why the option to select a specific episode ordering exists at all since it’s not actually respected…
thanks for the info, and checking on the series links!
Think of it like this. Every item (movie, show, episode) has a single set of metadata against it. Plex scrapes the metadata from those multiple sources, ranks it and then THAT becomes their metadata which you see within your plex server. Think of this as the plex metadata. Its no longer tmdb, tvdb, imdb, gracenote etc… its in the plex metadata mothership.
All you do with the episode ordering is reorder the episodes based on how tmdb or tvdb list those episodes based on their rules for their sites. The data itself does not change for the individual item, you only control the order. This is why the linkage is SO important.
Anyhow, there are some exceptions to this but they are few and far between nowadays.
