Plex episode title & description incorrect. TVDB, IMDB, Sonarr, Filename all correct

I have S16E08 of Gold Rush, and no matter what I have done, Plex still shows the title & description for S16E09.

See screenshots where TVDB, IMDB, Sonarr, & Filename all agree on the correct title & description, but Plex refuses to comply.

I deleted the show entirely, redownloaded the episode, refreshed metadata, and even tinkered with episode ordering at the library level. The agent is currently set for Plex Series, but trying to change it to TVDB said my changes can’t be saved. I’m guessing it’s deprecated?

Anyhow, I feel like this has happened before, and the entire rest of the season was messed up because of it, so I’m trying to fix it now.

Thanks,

Chris

Plex defaults to TMDB episode ordering, which sometimes differs from TVDB. You can change the default for the entire library or for an individual show.

  • Library: Edit the library → Advanced → Episode Ordering
  • Show: Edit the show → Advanced → Episode Ordering

To use TVDB (Aired) ordering for Gold Rush:

  1. Configure the library to use the default scanner & agent, Plex TV Series and Plex Series. The legacy scanner & agents will be going away at some point.

  2. Compare the episode orders on TMDB and TVDB. Notice that TMDB is missing No Off Days, which aired on 26 Dec. TVDB includes the episode.

  3. Edit the show (pencil icon) → Advanced → Episode Ordering = TVDB (Aired).

I followed those instructions, and unfortunately even after a metadata refresh, Plex is still showing an incorrect title and description.

I added some season 16 episodes to my server and I’m seeing strange results as well.

Question: Is there a definitive location listing episode numbers, titles, and when they aired?

Everyone seems to agree with episodes 1 - 7. After that it is a mess.
The Discovery Channel lists only through episode 7.
TMDB, IMDB differ with each other, and other sites such as IMDB & Wikipedia are different as well.
Some sites show an episode aired on 26 Dec and some do not.

It might take a bit to get this straightened out

Starting point is a definitive list of episodes and air dates. Then, if possible, get TMDB & IMDB to agree with each other.

The Plex metadata team can always override the info they receive from TMDB/TVDB, but right now the correct info does not seem available.

As FordGuy61 mentioned, “No Off Days” is missing on TMDB which is throwing the count off by 1. Well, it isn’t really missing, TMDB and some other sites I looked at are listing it as a special.

I tried setting up a test folder and yes, even with TVDB aired ordering selected, S16E08 still shows up as “Parker Comes Calling. I noticed that there don’t seem to be any external ID’s on TMDB link these episodes to their TVDB counterpart. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I think that is needed to get the ordering correct.

And now I noticed that TVDB also has “No Day Off” listed as special as well, S00E166. Hmm.

I can say that IMDB & TVDB are both correct as of now.

And S16E08 is both episode 8, and sort of a “special” at the same time, so TVDB has got it correct IMO.

But I guess Plex relies on TMDB even for TV shows?

Plex uses both TMDB and TVDB for TV show episode ordering information.

TMDB is the default when adding a new library. A TV Show defaults to “Library Default.” As previously mentioned, both can be changed.

Plex generally handles things OK when there are differences between TMDB and TVDB. However, sometimes things get too messed up (like with Gold Rush), and manual intervention is required.

At discovery.com, No Off Days is listed as a special episode, #102.

If that is the case, then watch.plex.tv and TMDB have the season 16 episodes listed correctly.

There is something fishy going on with TheTVDB (Aired) setting.

Check out this thread and read the last two posts.

On HBO, I’m just now seeing that Episode 8 is listed as “Parker Comes Calling”, and so yeah, seems like various sources are not in agreement.
