I am having a problem with incorrect matching of a tv series. It is the new MacGyver series. I have the filename correctly marked with 2016 in the file name but the match is to the old 1985 series. Since there is only one year in the series there is no ‘root’ available hence no “fix incorrect match” option available at any level. I am running the most current stable version of Plex and have tried both Firefox and
Opera browsers. This is on Linux Mint 16.04. Any suggestions?
Are you saying that there isn’t an option to fix incorrect match when you go into the series description?
Even with only one season you should still be able to fix incorrect match at the show level:
However, if you have the old show and it is merging the two you will need to split them apart first (Which should be at the same level as the screenshot).
With that being said the first thing will be to figure out why the scanner is matching it to the old show name. My first guess with no other information would be that you have the folder named without the year. This is what I have for my shows:
TV Shows/MacGyver (2016)/Season 01/MacGyver (2016).S01E01.The Rising.mkv
The recommend naming would suggest to change the periods with -'s but I like the period look better when browsing through my stuff.
Hi everyone. I’m having the same issue. Though I can see the option to “Fix Incorrect Match”, it’s only available at show level, not at season level. However, I have seasons 5 and up from the original show, ant Plex matched the 2016’s 1st season as if it were the old one.
@jmckee did mention splitin the show, but I don’t know what he means by it.
Please keep in mind I do have both folder and files containing 2016 in them [MacGyver (2016) for the folder and MacGyver.2016… for the files - though the files don’t have the episodes names]. Plus, the old show is in a complete different folder (I have “ended” and “current” shows separated).
Any ideas? Maybe if I add the episodes titles? Or if I add a 1985 to the old show’s folder (sure don’t want do so for all the espisodes).
I appreciate any insights you may give. Thanks!

Split apart is something happens when two separate movies or two separate tv shows get merged into one entry. For a movie it is pretty straight forward while for TV Shows it because a bit trickier. The only way to split them apart is if the two separate series were combined from separate folders. In this case you should be able to select the … at the series level and then select split apart since your episodes are stored in two base folders.
This support article talks about it a bit more.
Found that, @jmckee ! Never knew there was such an option - but hen again, I had never had such an issue. Worked like a charm (and pretty easily too). Thanks a lot!
Figured it out. The issue was that I had 2016 in the file name for each episode but not on the folder. Changed the folder and it found the correct info. Yah!
I use MCEBuddy and when the metadata get scanned for an added MacGyver it always picks the original show. I find that for this show when I use “Fix Incorrect Match” I have to change the year in the search screen to “2016” to get it to pull up the current season. If no year or original year only to the original year is shown.

Based on your screenshot it looks like you skipped the 2016 in the folder name, for the 2016 series you should have it in both the folder name and the file name as I posted above here is an example for episode one:
TV Shows/MacGyver (2016)/Season 01/MacGyver (2016).S01E01.The Rising.mkv
I am having this problem as well. I have the original MacGyver series (from 1985) as well as the new 2016 episodes… but I can’t figure out how to get Plex to stop merging them. It shows up as 137 episodes of MacGyver (2016).
I have the folders named “MacGyver” and “MacGyver (2016)” and all the 2016 episode filenames start with macgyver.2016.101 or whatever. I do not have a split option

We would need to see your actual folder structure. If the two shows folders are being merged, the only option to split is shown from the TV Series/Show level (where you see the seasons posters). Based on your naming you might actually be confusing the scanner as macgyver.2016.101 is not equal to MacGyver (2016).S01E01 when trying to parse the name, season, and episode numbers.
I’ve just experienced this issue as well, as I am moving my PMS from a Win7 machine to a *nix. I’ve opted just to let the new install scrap for all the data. In doing so (and it’s still going on, so I haven’t yet tried the aforementioned splitting), it combined my MacGyver series. I’ll provide my naming convention:
/Media/tv/MacGyver/Season 1/MacGyver.S01E01.Pilot.avi
/Media/tv/MacGyver (2016)/Season 1/MacGyver (2016) - S01E01.mkv
I vaguely recall mention of the use of tvdb show ID’s being utilized, however, I’m not certain (without yet looking although I plan to) if that can be done at a filename level. If so, then 77847 is for the original MacGyver and 311902 for MacGyver (2016) - for those viewing this thread as a result of a search.
It amazes me that Plex still defaults to old series instead of new ones. Even with the year in the filename.
When you have both, Use the year for both. That’s well known. TheTVDB is the root issue.
This was first made known when The Flash and The Flash (2014) came to be.
