Incorrect matching of tracks added from TIDAL

When I attempt to “Add to Library” from a TIDAL album, the actual track is added correctly but the metadata is incorrect. For example, use Plex Web to add the latest single “Happiness” by The 1975. Instead, the text metadata for “She’s American” by The 1975 will appear yet there is the correct cover art and audio for “Happiness”. When I use Plexamp, the text metadata is for “Happiness” by The Darkness and the cover art is incorrect as well yet the audio is still for the correct The 1975 version.

Attempting to remove and add the single (“Happiness” by The 1975) again, the correct metadata appears for a split-second but is then replaced by the text metadata for “Haunt // Bed” by The 1975. I have my library scanner and agent both set to “Plex Music”.

This appears to only occur when adding TIDAL tracks. I first noticed this behavior a week or so ago. It is occurring on both recently released and older tracks. I confirmed this when adding “Queen of the Night” by Whitney Houston from The Bodyguard soundtrack to my library. Amusingly, Plex shows this track as being on The Preacher’s Wife soundtrack.

Local media seems OK.

This is a bug in the Plex Music agent/scanner when the album/track does not exist in that external database. The metadata is transferred correctly from TIDAL, but the Plex Music agent/scanner overwrites to the closest match in its outdated database. Switching to Personal Media Artists agent with Plex Music Scanner scanner has temporarily worked around this issue.

Also been having this problem, where plex is super aggressive when matching music from tidal. even unmatching doesn’t help.

Even with work-around, this issue has cropped up again. Try to add the TIDAL album “The Shining (Selections from…” by Wendy Carlos. Instead it shows up as the TRON soundtrack yet with The Shining soundtrack cover art.

Anyone on the Plex team interested in tracking down this issue?

OK, so the solution is to make sure the recording is available in the MusicBrainz database, and add if necessary. Took about 72 hours before the addition showed up as a match in Plex Music Scanner (new version).
