Hi, I’ve been bleating about how plex doesn’t allow for 30min timezone offsets on the SmartTV app, now I’ve discovered that the DVR Beta is 30mins out of alignment with my GMT +9:30 timezone.
The Program guide tells me that a program is due to start at 5:30 PM, but the program has started at 5:00PM. How the heck am I going to be able to record anything with any confidence? I’ve just bought the HDHomeRun and paid my Prime subscription only to find that this isn’t working for me. I’m not happy that I’ve had to pay to be a Beta tester, and that this doesn’t work for me.
Sorry if I sound a bit frantic, but I’m a bit freaked out with this discovery. I’ve verified that a recording I did yesterday has captured the right program, but I didn’t verify what times it was displaying when I selected it.
@spin35 ~ Hey, first I’ve heard of this, but it’s the first case I’ve heard of the actual EPG being out of whack with … reality.
(Not sure what you mean by “on the SmartTV app”?)
Can you let us know where you are, country/zip, etc? Is everything offset?
@elan - thanks for geting back to me. I think all is well, I’ve just recorded two programs with overlap using two tuners and all went as expected. I think the earlier problem may have been an EPG error, no surprise 'round these parts. I’m in South Australia which has a GMT+9:30 time offset. The Plex client app that runs on Samsung SmartTV’s has a time offset setting that only increments by hours, so I can never set the right time on my Plex client. There are other parts of the world that have a similar problem (there’s even a place that has 45 min offset - crazy eh?).
I have also run into a similar problem. But it is only with certain irregular scheduled events (sports) and the recording starts several hours early. Yet other regularly scheduled events (weekly TV show) seem to record normally at the right time. My guess is my issue has something to EST/PST time zone as I am on the west coast.
Same issue here - some channels EPG is offset by +3 hrs (to the GMT+11 DST, I’m in GMT+8)
SBS, 9Go are some of the ones incorrect.
ABC2, for example is fine and correct.
Country is Australia - I’m on the west coast - Perth.
I selected the “FREEVIEW” EPG when prompted during the DVR setup.
Hi, have had a similar issue with the EPG not catering for timezones tonight - tho it’s my first time testing Plex DVR, I scheduled a movie recording to start at 1930 according to the EPG, however it had already started at 1830 so only recorded partway thru the film.
Am running on Linux (CentOS) with timezone set to BST (DST +1) so I’ll prolly need to run it as UTC instead I guess.
Hi - just wondering if this issue is supposed to have been resolved as I’m seeing it in Beta 6 (my HDHomerun is now supported! Thanks!). I have the same issue as IX9 above, and I’'m also in Perth.
Recordings on some channels (e.g. ABC1, HD) have the right time associated with them for Perth (e.g. Doctor Who is on at 7:42 PM (AWST) on ABC1 tomorrow, and my Plex is going to record Doctor Who at 7:42 PM). Channel 7 also seems OK.
Plex seems to think the guide data for some other channels (e.g. ONE, SBS) are on AEST, 2 hours offset from Perth currently, and adjusts the timezone accordingly… For example, Star Trek NG is on ONE at 3pm (AWST) today if I check several tv guides online. However, Plex believes it’s on at 1PM AWST (which is 3PM AEST - i.e. Sydney, Melbourne, etc).
I have the same problem with both the Freeview or FetchTV guides (the main options in Plex for Perth). Plex Server is on MacOS and timezone is set correctly.
Still seeing this issue here in Perth Western Australia.
Most channels are correct, but some are out by 2 hours (East coast time, not West Coast as they should be),
I have tried every combination of EPG data that Plex gives me and for some reason, One, SBS and related channels are out.
Live TV is also affected as the shows it says are playing are incorrect.
Plex server on Windows 10, times correct on server, not all channels affected.
@elan - I see you replied to this thread before, and there are other threads about issues with the Australian EPG. I’m in Perth, and still have the same problems, with the same channels, as @andw . For me, I’m on PMS 1.7.2, on a Mac OS X server (but the problem has been prevalent throughout the DVR beta). It seems to be that for some channels the timezone is corrected for Perth, and for others it isn’t.
Is this problem with Plex DVR in Perth something the Plex team is aware of? Do you think the improvements planned by Gracenote for Australia will fix this issue? Is it worth creating a separate thread specifically about this issue in Perth to ensure it doesn’t get lost? Plex DVR is great, but it’s a little frustrating I can’t use it on all the channels - some of the series I most want to record are on SBS, which has this problem.
@andw @gmcallow Can you give some specific examples of channels and shows that aren’t correct? I’ll try to do a little digging on my side, and see what I can find
SBSHD (30) Plex is showing show times 2hours earlier than correct (e.g. show actual start time 1PM - Plex has listed as 11AM)
9GEM same
9GO same
9Life same
ONE same
TEN HD same
NITV same
11 is correct (although it is one of 10’s channels and the others are out)
90HD - Appears to just have wrong details altogether
It appears that all the ABC channels are correct and so are all the 7 channels.
SBS channels I thing are all wrong, some of 10 and some (all?) of 9
It would be easier if the wording under the show thumbnails had what channel they were airing on listed as well, rather than having to open each one up to see what channel it is playing on.
Can’t use either Live channels or the recording at the moment as impossible to guess what is actually really currently on or will be on.
@DaveBinM - great thanks!
SBS (and SBS HD) are a good example:
- Looking in my Plex Program Guide, Plex believes the next new episode of Fargo is on June 14th at 19:30 (in Perth).
- Looking at the SBS guide on their website (http://www.sbs.com.au/guide/channel/SBS/location/WA#/), the next episode of Fargo is on June 14th at 21:30 in Perth.
21:30 on the East Coast is 19:30 in Perth, so it looks to me like Perth believes the time it’s getting for SBS shows is in the East Coast timezone, and (incorrectly) then correcting that for Perth. I’ve tried all the program guide sources for Plex, and they all have the same behaviour.
It’s only a few channels that show this, with the SBS suite being the most important for me (SBS, SBS HD, SBS Viceland). Ten and ABC don’t exhibit this problem - the times for those channels are reflected correctly in the Plex Program guide.
@gmcallow @andw Thanks! I’ll start with SBS and work from there. It might take some digging, but I’ll see what I can do
@DaveBinM , @andw - It looks like the improved EPG for Australia that’s just been released (see https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/279313/improved-epg-data-for-australia) has fixed the timezone issues for the Plex TV guide in Perth. For me, the guide now seems to be showing the correct times for SBS, etc.
I got the same problem over here in sweden. Using “ComHem” as channellist/guide.
Channel “Viasat Hockey” and “Viasat Fotboll” is showing 1 hour early. TV3 Sport is showing 2 hours late for example
