After transferring my Plex libraries to new a new computer, wiping out the things I no longer have access to and the trouble files (the old “optimized” files) noticed that one of my shows is incorrectly naming episodes.

E:/Videos/TV/The Muppet Show (1976)
Subdirectories being the individual seasons 0 (for specials), 1,2,3,4,5, with the file names being: Show Name - Season|Episode - Name of Special Guest. IE: The Muppet Show - S01E01 - Juliet Prowse

24 episodes over 5 seasons. Within Plex, It shows The Muppet Show | Season 1 | Episode 1: Joel Grey …complete with thumbnail from a clip of the show with Joel Grey … However, whenever starting the episode, Kermit announces “It’s The Muppet Show, with tonight’s special guest… Juliet Prowse”

I’ve gone and removed the folder to an unmonitored folder, scanned library folders, Deleted trash, I’m no longer seeing a “clean packets” option (I recall seeing something some time ago about it being added to dumping the trash, though I could be misremembering, regardless, ‘Clean Packets’ isn’t visible, and I’ve moved the mouse over the entire list of options given.)

The Files are named "The Muppets - S##E## - [Guest].MP4. I’ve looked at the metadata (of at least S1E1), and there isn’t anything pointing towards Joel Grey …at least not until you get to the episode that Joel WAS the guest… Episode 3 Season 1…of which Plex is naming it “Sandy Duncan” and showing thumbnails of her (from her run on the show, episode 14). There are a few episodes that all correspond to the name being the actual guest, and showing the proper thumbnail.

As I’ve said, I’ve moved the main folder, deleted trash, scanned library to remove the icon and entry form being acknowledged, even closed/quit the plex server, restarted it, re-scanned the library, then moved the folder back into the /TV/ folder, only to have it showing the same incorrect thumbnail and name.

I’ve even gone through, and corrected the Title & Search Title with the proper names, as listed in IMDB’s listing of episodes, for. every. season., making sure S1E1 all the way through S5E24 matches with the episode list <and what the summary/synopsis says within each episode…provided it mentions the guest>… But, the thumbnails are still wrong, I then went and Scanned the library, and refreshed metadata, only to have it return the incorrect names instead of updating the thumbnails.

Unmatching the places the proper thumbnails on them, but when I match them, back to showing incorrect names & thumbnails for well over half.

Also, the only Agent listed for matching seems to be Plex TV Series, even though in settings > Agents > Shows has just about every one enabled.

I also /JUST/ unmatched the show again, went in and named the 1st season properly, leaving the locks on the names enabled <so they wouldn’t be changed> … matched the show again, and went back in… still 90% of them are misnamed, and improperly thumbnailed.

The Juliet Prowse episode was originally a pilot but later reworked into a different episode in the existing show order

It is now considered the season finale of season 1 according to the tvdb
https://thetvdb.com/series/the-muppet-show/episodes/87055

And season 1 episode 19 on TMDB

You also have to designate what source you want to use for the show order

Name the episodes according to the TVDB or TMDB (they are different)

and then pick that inside of Plex

You can choose at the library level

Or at the show level by clicking the show poster

There we go… Thank you, that worked. Of course I had to go back in and rename the things I’d locked down after last time, before switching to Aired date sorting. That helps my OCD & ADHD mind a great deal
