incremental update of photo library possible (like music library)

Hello,

When I add some new tracks to my music library, the tracks get detect and are almost instantly added to my library.
If I do the same in a picture library, I see plex scanning the whole picture library, witch takes a while and consumes resources on my server.

Both my libraries are relative large (80.000 pics, 35.000 mp3s)

Is there a way to avoid plex scanning “archive” libraries: I placed my pics in folers/year. No need to rescan 1992-2016 if I place a new pic in 2017…
Of course I can split my library in 2 and have a “Photo-Archive” and “Photo”, but I don’t like that idea, because it messes up my main menu.
I have been experimenting with .plexignore, but with no good result (see also http://forums.plex.tv/discussion/250382/possible-to-exclude-a-directory-from-scanning)

Is there a difference in algorithm between scanning music and scanning pictures? Or why is adding music much more responsive then adding pictures?

kind regards,
Bart
