Currently, Plex offers the ability to mark and skip intros and credits, with several detection methods available under “Settings - Library” — including online content, local detection, or a combination of both. I usually opt for the combined method, as it prioritizes online content, helping to save system resources. If online data isn’t available, it can fall back on local analysis.
However, for larger libraries — and I believe most Plex users aim for a rich, visually appealing media library without necessarily owning vast storage space — many now rely on tools like rclone to mount cloud services such as OneDrive as pseudo-local drives. While this works great for extending storage, it presents challenges when it comes to intro/credits detection. Specifically, using local scanning on cloud-based libraries can be slow and may cause excessive requests, potentially leading to issues like account throttling or being flagged by the cloud provider.
That’s why I propose adding a feature that allows users to set different intro/credits detection methods for each media library. For example, I’d like to continue using both local and online detection for my local libraries, but for cloud-based libraries, I’d prefer to use only the online detection option. This flexibility would prevent the current limitation where we have to select a single detection method for all libraries, enhancing the experience for users who rely on cloud-mounted content.
This approach would optimize the experience for those with cloud-based media libraries and reduce unnecessary strain on both users’ systems and cloud providers.
