Oke, I figured out to change the option in my plex such that my music library is searchable using plexamp. The problem is that I don’t want to find music with my plex, like I am not finding movies with plexamp.
For me plex is for movies and series and I was hoping to use plexamp for music. But if my plex search results get disturbed by the music, I have to switch to another, because it is slower and clouds the result.
Can there be only 1 global search? And if yes how is plexamp being able to filter out the music then? Am I missing something here?
What do you mean change? You are asking how to get global search for other music in other places but in order to do that you need to turn that on in the settings. It’s a good thing that you can turn it on and off. Many people don’t want to have global search and others want it. You have a choice to have that option.
If I have global results off (plex settings), I also won’t get search result in my plexamp app. They are linked somehow.
I mean I either turn off global search for the music library. They my plex doesn’t show music results (what I want) but my plexamp doesn’t show any results (what I don’t want. When I turn global search on for the music library I get the opposite. Music results in my plex (what I don’t want) and music results in my plexamp (what I want).
Ok. You clarified your situation better. Yes, the settings that you set for your Music Library on the Server do indeed affect the Plex Amp app. I’m not sure the ratio of users who have a need to hide their music library completely like you request but I’d like to point out that when hiding libraries from both global search and from the Home Screen, if those same libraries are shared, Friends and Managed Users would not be able to search for that content. I think this is why your use case to hide in the Plex Search on Plex Apps vs. Plex Amp conflicts. I don’t know if Plex intends to separate this matter to allow both different use cases for global search but they may just suggest you to use EXCLUDE FROM HOME SCREEN and that still won’t give you your desired outcome. I am in agreement with your situation, that perhaps there should be another option drop down box with the same options for PlexAmp usage separately from the regular Plex Apps.
Clear answer, thanks for your help. Otherwise I would be stubborn and keep on trying different settings. I do am thinking in the direction of a second install of plex (just for the music), because I do like the plexamp a lot
That doesn’t sound like a bad idea to be honest. The reason that’s good is because Plex server can have some database corruption that might not always be fixable and some users have had to start their server from scratch, deleting all databases and then having to redo scanning of all files from every library. Movies and tv shows are way easier to scan and build the database again and super fast. The problem would be music as its very very time consuming on the Server and hinders the performance while scanning in audio and doing it’s analysis. If you turn on the new Sonic Analysis, it will add additional time to this process and can take more than a month to complete depending on the size of your music library.
You are probably best to setup two separate servers, which you can. Any potential database corruption won’t have any affect on your other server pertaining to movies and tv shows.
