Inotify Automatic Scan for Linux and Windows

I have my media on a Synology NAS and the PMS server is currently on Windows 11. My music library is very extensive. Windows always correctly detects new content and scans only that content. A few months ago, I tried PMS on Ubuntu, but the automatic scan doesn’t work because it doesn’t detect changes in SMB or NFS network shares. Now I’d really like to use Linux instead of Windows, but the only way to do this seems to be to have PMS on the same server as the content for automatic scanning. Isn’t it possible to make changes to Plex to allow it to read inotify changes from a Linux server on an SMB or NFS network share? Or are there other solutions I’m not aware of? I think this limitation should be corrected.. Thanks.

iNotify depends on the kernel of the OS, and do not work on a remote filesystem, sorry

I suggest you instead setup a scheduled job in PMS

I understand, but does the type of scan you suggest only detect new content or does it scan the entire library?

It scans the entire Library

then it’s not good, it takes too long and it’s a waste of resources, for now I’m staying with Windows 11 which works well, maybe I could think about an all-Linux server on which to install the media and the PMS.

Huh…
Should be fairly fast, and only items that has changed since the last update
