No matter what I try, I can’t get a secure connection in Plex except on the server (Mac mini). When I use https://app.plex.tv/desktop#!/ or even if I use the direct access 1xx.1xx.1.xx:32400 it says that the server is unreachable or can be connected only by an insecure connection. The only way It have been able to access Plex server is through an insecure connection. When I look at my users who mostly use Chromecast or Apple TV, all connections are insecure, even the Apple TV on the same network.
Server Version#: 1.22.1.4200
Player Version#:
Make sure IP6 is disabled in PMS and the Router/Modem.
Thanks Nate8727, I’ll try that. I appreciate the help.
I tried that, but no difference. If I use the Plex desktop app it will connect, but any other way the the connection is insecure or will not connect to the server at all. All my users have insecure connections
Have you made sure your network doesn’t have a double NAT?
A lot of the Modems/Routers issued by ISPs can cause issues with Plex. Usually just adjusting the settings will fix it but some models have no solution.
If you have your own then disregard this next part, but if you don’t have your own Modem, I would get one. Saves $10 a month usually.
Also, is the remote connection working? I wasn’t clear if you had users outside the network.
If it’s not then you’ll want to follow the Remote Access Troubleshooting section.
If it is working, then there are a couple things you can check out in the Secure Connections How To. The section that starts under “Why Isn’t it Working?” could be helpful.
Hopefully this takes care of it.
If not, you’ll want to get with a Plex person with your logs for further help.
I do have users outside the local network and originally they all connected securely, but a few months ago I noticed that not all were secure connections. I had a lot of trouble with Remote Access, but when I install 1.22.1 server update that problem stopped and I have had no trouble since.
I wouldn’t use a modem from the ISP if they gave me money to take it. I am running an ASUS DSL-AC68U.
I have checked and IP6 on server and modem is now disabled, but it hasn’t made any difference.
Thanks, I appreciate all the help you are giving me.
Did you check for a double NAT and the DNS binding mentioned in the two linksI mentioned before?
I’ll check into that…
I ended up resetting the modem to default and that fixed the problem. Thanks for all the help.
