Insert Vintage/Current user-picked Commercial(s) sessions in between TV and Movie playing

Would be a cool option to insert your preferred Decade or topic (could be tons of filter features) of commercials during TV or movie playback. You could even partner with companies and have them supply original vintage commercials like “Duracell” giving you or at least greenlightning their 90’s assortment for example (maybe even get paid for it, and it’s a type of commercials users will actually ENJOY because they picked them). Would be cool watching vintage black and white commercials from the 50’s while watching a vintage TV Show…you could set the number of commercials to play during a session and the minutes between video playback until a session activates (10/15/20/25/30 minutes for example) and as the movie or tv plays…once that 10 or 15 or etc mark hits…plex would fade the audio and video to allow a smooth transition then start playing the commercial(s) then when the commercial session is over, the video can resume starting with a fade up with video/volume and start 10 or 15 seconds previous to where the commercials started (similar to how tv does it now with mini recaps) that way it throws you right back into the movie/tv you were watching. Commercials could be supplied by Plex with a limited selection for basic users and a wide selection for Plex Pass users. Also it would be nice if users could add their own Library of commercials (similar to how trailers are now). I would think with companies being as rich as they are and putting commercials on EVERYTHING…they’d GIVE them away to Plex if not PAY to have them added. I think if Plex proposed the idea to companies they could get their hands on exclusive vintage AND current material. Thoughts?

I want to add the option to music played through Plexamp and Echo devices. PMS admin can create mp3 bumpers that would be randomly inserted into the play queue base on admin provided criteria.

Summary:

A feature to enable scene detection in old TV shows and cartoons, allowing for the insertion of vintage TV advertisements. This feature would include options for configuring the frequency and placement of ads or disabling the ads entirely.

Detailed Description:

As a fan of classic TV shows and cartoons, I appreciate the nostalgic experience they offer. To enhance this experience, I have been collecting old TV advertisements from the same era. I would love to see a feature in Plex that allows for the seamless integration of these vintage ads into the playback of my favorite shows.

Key Features:

  1. Scene Detection: Automatically detect scene transitions in old TV shows and cartoons to determine optimal points for ad insertion.
  2. Ad Insertion Configuration:
  • Ad Frequency: Configure how often ads should be inserted (e.g., every 10 minutes, at the halfway point, etc.).
  • Ad Placement: Choose specific scenes or points within the show where ads should be inserted.
  • Ad Pool Management: Create and manage a pool of vintage ads to be randomly selected for insertion.
  1. Default Settings:
  • Ad-Free Mode: By default, shows will play without ads unless the user opts to enable ad insertion.
  • Customization Options: Users can enable and customize the ad insertion settings on a per-show basis or for their entire library.
  1. User Interface:
  • Ad Settings Panel: A dedicated section within the Plex settings menu to manage ad insertion preferences.
  • Preview Feature: Allow users to preview how the ads will be inserted before saving their settings.

Benefits:

  • Enhanced Nostalgia: Adds to the nostalgic experience of watching old TV shows by including period-appropriate advertisements.
  • Customizable Viewing Experience: Provides users with the flexibility to tailor their viewing experience according to their preferences.
  • Library Enrichment: Utilizes existing collections of vintage ads, making them an integral part of the viewing experience.

Example Use Case:

While watching a classic episode of “The Twilight Zone,” the show naturally transitions to a scene break, where a vintage 1960s ad for a popular product of the time is seamlessly inserted. This not only enhances the viewing experience but also transports the viewer back in time, offering a more authentic representation of TV watching from that era.
