Well, I don’t know how or why it happened, but after I installed HDHomeRun’s own program (link available on this page hdhomerun_config [HDHomeRun]), almost all of the issues I had with Plex went away:
No more taking up 2 tuners or more for each recording
Live viewing is working
Record actually works, even 2 channels at once!
You guys might give this a try if not done already.
From recent perusal of the topic, it appears that the HDHomeRun app is the way that they update the firmware for the tuner, though the topic is anything but clear on SiliconeDust’s site. Speculating, I think that installing and running the Windows app for a while updated your firmware in the background and that had a positive effect on how the tuner interacts with Plex.
Well i can tell you i wish i never updated the firmware in my connects.
For seven years it worked great with WMC and the last two with Plex Pass, and android clients.
Then i updated form 2016 to 2021 firmware. seems they add some new setting in the android app.
Then some channels seemed to have trouble playing, I found if i disabled interlacing setting in the app the channel could play in the android app. But Plex still need to take control and have the stream go through it and then pass it on to the TV. This still is the source of many issues on android clients, i wont go into that here.
The HDHR Audio would want to be pass through as AC3 and the volume would need to be controlled by the TV remote and not the Android box remote just for the the HDHR AC3 channels, PITA. Had to disable AC3 in the Plex client to get any audio to work on the android box. It is not a setting you can change had to edit a file.
In the end i found and fixed the original issue i was having by rebooting my Plex server and did not need to update the firmware at all. Too bad you can’t go back.
Like the OP i had installed the latest HDHR software (it was hard to find) thinking that was needed to update the firmware as it was done in the old days. Found it is no longer done that way.
