Plex Live TV / DVR with HDHomeRun

I have an old version of the HDHomerun (model: HDHomeRun DUAL 101A2C68) and I got it to scan channels and it works just fine with the HDHomerun app as I can see the stations and change channels. I setup the Live TV/ DVR on my Plex server and it finds the HDHomeRun just fine and it let me run a channel scan just fine and it loaded up the guide just fine after a while… but on the Plex app it will not let me tune to a channel and gives the error “An error has occurred, please try again later.”

Anyone else have this issue?

For some it works just fine, for others.

If your server version is 1.14.1-5488 you can back up to the 1.12 or wait till the next version. Run the HDHR setup program to make sure your firmware is up to date.

Thank you for the link and the fast reply Tiebierius. I will wait for a new version to come out as I am in no rush. I just wanted to try and make sure my box worked before bringing it all the way back to Colombia with me from the USA. Looks like other also have the same issue so it looks like it is just bugs that they need to work out of this whole new liveTV and DVR feature they are rolling out.

I upgraded my Plex server today to version 1.15.2.793. And was hoping that I could finally use the Live TV features of Plex. However, I’m still stuck with “Playback error. Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.”. This error comes up when using Plex on the computer as well as on the Roku. I’m using a HDHomeRun Dual tuner and, of course, it works fine under Windows 10 and the HDHomeRun app. And it works fine on my Android phone with the HDHomeRun app.

It is odd that Plex finds the tuner and I am able to scan for channels and update the
program guide with no problems. Just fails to stream any programs.

I’m at a loss to know what to try next.

Same issue here… “Could not tune channel” with latest update to Plex… Gotta love a system that just never works… This has been way over a year now… being a software developer myself… Who is running this operation? do they know this is so bad?

Just when this thread was about to expire.

Top 4 reasons it doesn’t work.

Firmware of the Dual? (Should be 20170930)
Using a custom transcoder directory or Ramdrive?
Wrong Permissions on the TV or transcode directory
Weak Signal?

Debug logs would help Plex figure out your issue.

My HDHomeRun is at firmware version 20190221.
Are you saying to somehow revert the firmware to a 2017 version?

I haven’t setup any custom transcoder directorties or ramdrives.

Nor have I edited the permissions on the directories. Should I check these? Set permissions to full control for everyone?

Signal is not perfect but is adequate enough to work with the HDHomeRun app in Windows 10 and Android.

Thanks

If you are talking about the HDHR Dual (White box with two coax inputs), the last public firmware was 20170930. Are you running a beta version?

You started your own thread so it is best to work out of that one.

That date was on one of the screens when using the HDHomeRun app under Windows. I suspect that it was the date of the app software rather than firmware date. Doesn’t really matter now.
I sprung for a new HDHR5 Connect Duo and it is working perfectly. I got it connected to the home network, Plex sees it, scanned for my local channels, able to view live TV and was able schedule a recording last night!
Thanks for your help and direction to solve this problem. It is a shame that it took new hardware for Plex to play nicely with the HDHR. But I guess we all have to refresh our hardware from time to time.

Mike
