In trying to install Plex Media Server, I get the following error:

‘Resources’ is not a valid short file name.

Then the install fails and rolls back with the error message:
One or more issues caused the setup to fail. Please fix the issues and then retry setup. For more information see log file.

I’ve been getting that for a week and was waiting to see if someone else got it. I’m upgrading from the last Beta version.

I figured it’s a sign just to stay on the version I’m on. We all know how reliable “updates” can be.

Thank you for confirming. At least I know that I’m not the only one. It also causes my uninstall to fail and I have to go spelunking through the registry to clean it out. :frowning:

My bad. This is the error I’m getting. I’ve been running this setup since April with zero issues and now this.

Trouble with removing the app “Stopping Plex” (a.k.a. pms-shutdown.msi) is a sign that a “Registry Cleaner/Optimizer” or a dedicated “Uninstaller” software was used.
(Not recommended, these things tend to be pure snake oil and do more damage than good.)

See PMS-SHUTDOWN.MSI Error / FIXED!

Fixed. I found a reference elsewhere on the forums after following link that @OttoKerner posted above of using Microsoft’s Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter. I found the download for it at https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/17588/windows-fix-problems-that-block-programs-being-installed-or-removed , installed it and ran the Troubleshooter on the Uninstall of Plex Media Server. It ran for a bit, said that it fixed it and asked me to try to uninstall again. I did and it worked. I then was able to re-install with no issues.

None of the above. The only thing that has happened since the last install is Win 10 update 2004.

I would suggest someone at Plex try installing Win 10 2004 update and duplicate the issue. Because right now I’m stuck without a solution.

I’m not a programmer and don’t have any idea what that link is talking about.

Did you try either my link or the method @magnumsolutions mentioned above?
