I have tried to upgrade my plex. However it wasn’t able to do so, and I received an error;
I then decided to delete all of Plex from my computer, and run a complete fresh install. This included uninstalling, running the Microsoft Fixit program, and running Revo Uninstaller. I also did a search of the hard drive to manually delete any remaining folders/files that were associated with Plex.
Ran the install once again, and it continued with the above error. This has been ongoing for two days… Hell, I’ve even gone back and recovered my whole computer to last week in order to hopefully fix this (didn’t work).
I’ve come to the realization that I know only enough about computers and programs to be dangerous, and screw up my system even worse.
How to I resolve this issue?
Attached is the most recent log file (not that I know what to do with it or how to interpret it);
It’s a home computer. So, I guess my technical support group is Jack Daniels. (not aware of anyone/thing else). It appears that I have .NET framework v4.0 (As I did a google search as to figure out how to even find out how to do that).
So, I keep on trying anything that I find on this site… upgraded the .NET framework, continued to try installs, tried to remove all signs/files/innuendos/traces/everything to do with Plex, and start over… yet I continue to get the message that the older version of Plex can’t be removed (and therefore won’t load install).
This leaves me with a ton of media on my computer, yet no server to access it… meaning it’s useless to me.

Tried everything in that other thread. The error message has now changed, and it stops a lot quicker.
So I’m still stuck…
Newest log attached.
There should be other log files with more detail that go with this log.

These logs may have clues as to why the we have this error in the first log file
The Microsoft fix it should tidy up the version that does not uninstall
Try selecting troubleshooting uninstall of Plex Media Server
Plex Media Server has a number of packages - you may need to also try entering the package names
eg Stopping Plex for pms-shutdown.msi issues
Have been looking into all the logs - the issue is that it is failing to remove what it believes a previous installed version - that it cannot find

It has not logged what version it is and it’s package name is null !
What we could try is entering that product code into the Microsoft troubleshooter for install / uninstall
Just commenting for anyone else coming upon this thread that this solution worked for me as well a year later. One additional step I had to make however, was running the Program Install and Uninstall troubleshooter on an item in the list name ‘Stopping Plex’
