PMS-SHUTDOWN.MSI Error / FIXED!

So Plex would not update due to “pms-shutdown.msi” I did use Revo Uninstaller to cleanup the registry. I also manually searched after a reboot for 'Plex" in the registry. I now am unable to re-install the Plex Server. Can anyone point me in the right direction please.

Thanks
Javier

Thanks

Ok so I figured it out. Opened up the registry and searched for the version of the pms-shutdown.msi it was asking for.

“C:\ProgramData\Package Cache{763A44F9-11ED-4C90-B79F-01077108135B}v1.7.4035\pms.msi.” I searched for only “v1.7.4035” I deleted the registry key. I was able to reinstall and I’m back up and running.

Hope this helps someone.

Helped me a lot! Thanks!

Okay … I think I’m getting closer. I removed the reg with the version that was causing the error. Still didn’t work. I went back and removed the pms_shutdown reg line that came up with the original search and deleted it. I no longer get the error "resource that is unavailable. However, it still pops up and says the older version of stopping plex cannot be removed. There was a 3rd line that came up in the registry: (Default ) Reg-sz … but that cannot be deleted.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

I finally figured out the last piece to the puzzle.
After following HighJavier’s advise, I used Microsoft Install / Uninstall Program Troubleshooter Fix It and used the uninstall feature. This time I noticed that Stopping Plex was listed as a program. I uninstalled it and then successfully installed the latest version of Plex. I am back up and running…

THANK YOU ALL!

This is what worked for me, without an uninstall/reinstall.

I was on 1.10.1.4602 trying to install 1.11.0.4666 when I got the pms-shutdown error. I didn’t have the 1.10.1.4602 install file as I’d updated via plex, but I did have 1.10.1.4561… so I double clicked this, and ran the repair rather than install. I then simply installed 1.11.0.4666 as per normal with no error messages.

I encountered the same issue (after cleaning the installer cache) and Fix It did not resolve my problem.
I was however able to force the in``staller to continue (since plex was already stopped and the msi was missing) by deleting the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\Installer\Products\416DA2995EFF8524BB65E957312E2112 key entirely, then re-running the installer.
I found the exact key to delete by searching the registry for pms-shutdown, and the resulting key contained Stopping Plex in one of the values. You can use that procedure to find your own registry key if the ID above is not found.

I know this topic is over a year old, but just wanted to say thanks and reply in case anyone else recently has the same issue. Deleting the registry keys didn’t fix my issue nor did trying to re-install the current server in an attempt to repair/replace pms-shutdown. What did work was using this Microsoft Fix It tool from their website. I selected the Uninstall option, saw Stopping Plex listed, removed it, and then the latest PMS installed without issue. I think what happened in my case was my PC had recently updated to the newest Windows 10 version (1903 I think it is) which broke 7.1 audio for me. So I rolled it back to the previous version (1803 I think) where 7.1 works fine. That’s the only thing that had changed between the last PMS update and this latest one. So in case anyone else updates Windows, then rolls back, then tries to update PMS but fails, perhaps this will work for them, too.

Hi there,

I dont find any solution for that problem in my case.
It blocks for the “Stopping Plex” it asks me the containing installation package for psm shutdown.msi and when i choose one : " C:\ blabla… is not a valid installation package for the product stopping plex.
Try to find the installation package pms shotdown.msi in a folder from wich you can install stopping plex…

Please help !
