Installation of Plex App via usb?

Continuing the discussion from New LG webOS App Preview:

TV: LG 55uu640c
WebOS : 4. 0

Hello there,

I hope you could help me out. I’m been an avid fan of Plex these past few years especially after i bought a WD MyCloud.

Is there a way to install a PLEX app in my LG LEDTV? It doesn’t have a LG CONTENT STORE being a commercial tv. Though, a pre installed app of YouTube did come with it after i bought it on sale.

I was hoping i could somehow install it to have Plex more accessible rather going thru Chromecast. Typical witg tge youtu.be app that was pre installed.

Hoping for your kind guidance…

Thank you,
Joel

Not possible. The Plex app is actually loaded over the internet whenever you use it. It does not reside on the TV itself.

But i was able to install Plex via Samsung’s app store on my other tv. For LG CONTENT STORE, there’s also a Plex app for installation.
Just so happen that this commercial lite tv which is usually used for signage or conference room doesn’t come with the LG CONTENT STORE.
Since, YouTube was able to be pre installed. I am hoping there’s a way to do the same.
Thanks…

You would at least need the ability to install apps yourself from USB. Does the TV allow you to actually take an app on a USB stick and add it into the TV’s internal memory? Your TV’s special firmware may not be user-modifiable like this to begin with.

There’s a feature for usb upgrade. Not sure if that can be used for apps installation. Tried asking LG to no avail.

What you are installing is not actually the app. It’s more of a placeholder. Launching that loads the Plex app through the internet. If you disconnect your internet, you will see that those apps won’t actually load anything.

Nope. Pre-installed software are different. These reside in the firmware.

Ah ok. Now, I understand. Thank you very much for the info. Really appreciate it …
