Hi,
Downloaded the windows installer and tried to flash a brand new 16GB SD card with 1.0.3. The flash failed and the SD was rendered completely inoperable. All methods of reformatting or repartitioning the card failed. I brought the card back to the store and they gave me a new one. Redownloaded the 1.0.3 image and tried again - same result, SD card completely toasted.
Any thoughts on why this is happening?
Cheers,
malcolm
Update: I managed to get the card to partition and format. It seems operable again. I ran the GetRasplex utility on my MacBook this time and the card was successfully flashed. New problem: when I start my Pi3 with this card I get the “color screen”. I’m quite certain I chose 1.0.3. Suggestions on how I can dig in deeper to diagnose the issue?
First, did you get 1.0.3 for the correct Pi board that you have? Second, the Pi3 needs a larger power supply than the older Pi boards. What current does your power supply provide?
I have a large power supply as I have a Hifiberry attached. Should be no issues there. Looking at the UI I suspect I didn’t select Raspberry Pi2 as the model. I’ll try again when I get home from work.
Case closed, I did indeed use the Pi1 image instead of the Pi2. All is now well with my Pi3.
However I remain in mortal fear of running the GetRasplex utility on Windows. Totally messes up my SD cards.
It’s a mistake a lot of people have made. Don’t feel bad.
