Hi,
I've spent the past few hours attempting to convince Rasplex to work- I'm attempting to run it on a Raspberry Pi Model B. I've tried both versions listed on the Windows installer, and even tried manual installs, but I've had the same result every time.
The screen will remain blank, and the activity light on the RPi will flash for a brief time, and after a while I'll be left with just the red power indicator on.
I've read that it requires a class 10 SD Card or higher (Although I'm not entirely sure that I've come across the term "class" before, in relation to SD cards?) The SD card I'm using was one that originally came with NOOBS pre-installed on it, from the official RPi store.
The 'Class' specification is standard for all SDHC cards, and it relates mainly to interface speed and reliability for high-speed access. There is a newer specification too, known as UHS which carries on where class 10 ends. So the very best class 10 cards also have a UHS-1 specification. (I've never yet seen any card of any kind with UHS-2 or higher, but I expect this will come for future SDXC cards.)
The class specification logo is a capital C with the class digit(s) inside the C shape.
Similarily the UHS logo is a capital U with a digit inside the U shape.
Am I missing something here, or is this down to the card? (Or have I somehow managed to fry my Raspberry Pi without realising? The last time I used it, it was running OpenELEC, and I had to pull the power, as it'd locked up.)
I'm not sure what the current policy is at the RPi store, but I do remember some earlier incidents when they sold class 4 cards with NOOBS preinstalled, so if they still do that then this is sufficient reason for your failures with RasPlex as well as OpenELEC.
RasPlex is in fact based on OpenELEC, so they have much the same requirements when it comes to hardware speed, power, etc.
A low class card would thus explain both the problems with RasPlex and the lock-up with OpenELEC.
I recommend that you get a new SDHC card of class 10, which should hopefully eliminate your problems.
Remember to avoid getting the new SDXC card types, as I don't think they are compatible to RPi units.
