Integrate Library and Collections in UI

Collections are very useful for large libraries, but having them in a completely segregated part of the UI limits their usability. Additionally, for larger libraries, the “Library” browser becomes somewhat useless and cumbersome.

It would be nice if there was an option to consolidate Library and Collections into a single interface. For example, what would currently be, in alphabetical order:

Example Library:

  • Blink Twice
  • Dr. No
  • From Russia with Love
  • Goldfinger
  • Oppenheimer
  • You Only Live Twice
  • Watchmen
  • Watchmen: Chapter I

And having the following collections in a separate space:

  • James Bond Collection
  • Watchmen Collection

An integration into a “consolidated library view” might look like:

  • Blink Twice
  • James Bond Collection
  • Oppenheimer
  • Watchmen Collection

This would severely help, too, with reducing clutter in libraries where a movie may have many sequels under different names, but the first movie is really the primary item most people would want to watch in the library. For those of us that tend to collect old movies and such, it would prevent them from cluttering the Library view to the point where it’s not really useful.

Thanks!

You can already show collections inline with the library — either alongside their content, or by entirely hiding their items. That is if you keep your library sorted by title.

Check out the Collections preference in the advanced settings of the library.

Thank you - it looks like the documentation is out of date, because it’s now all controlled by “Hide items that are in a collection” which led me to believe they would simply be removed from the Library.
