For years now I have been forced to use two apps (Plex and Channels) when ideally I should be able to use just one (Plex). The Live TV performance just isn’t there unfortunately. When watching a live 1080i channel via Plex I notice what I will call smearing or macro-blocking during big sequences when there are graphics on the screens transitioning. An example would be watching Monday Night Football and they have a massive graphic going into or coming out of a commercial break. It’s happens frequently during the local news as well since they use nonstop graphics coming in an out of nearly every shot. Now…I do have the same problem using the Channels app depending on the “decoding” options selected between software, hardware or hybrid. I’m not at home, but setting it to either hardware or software gives me perfect playback. I have been waiting years for this to be rectified by Plex and cannot believe it isn’t considered to be a major bug. The folks behind the Channels app have obviously figured this out, but I would really like to get to a point where I can just use Plex for live TV. One thing to note…I have the same exact issues with the built in Live Channels app.
