Live TV Streaming Error - Only a few channels stream ok to Plex Live TV

Guide/Lineup name: Freesat (122 channels)
Using XMLTV?: Using the guide mapped on the Plex interface
Channel number/Name: Most Channels do not stream to Plex but playback natively on VBox HDMI

Everything looks OK. It used to work fine and I’ve always had the server running on my M1 Mac mini but now I get the following error when trying to play back/stream most of the channels:

Playback Error

Could not tune channel. Please check your tuner or antenna.

The Vbox plays back the channels no problem when playing direct from the Vbox itself via HDMI

Some channels stream ok on Plex Live TV, but only 2 or 3 of the channels E.G. Channel 4 HD and BBC Two HD stream perfectly well.

Can anyone help me?

Please provide actual versions. “Latest” means different things depending on whether or not you’re follow the stable channel or beta. And different players (clients) have different versions available.

I’m not using a player, playing directly on web interface to test.

It was the same problem yesterday and I ran an update to this version today with the same issues

I can only get two channels to stream. BBC Two and Channel 4

They stream fine even when I map the incorrect channel guide on plex to these two channels.

I’ve tried different EPG Locations on Plex for channel mapping. Currently trying Astra FTA (531 channels)

No other channels seem to stream at all

The web app is a player, and it has its own version. You can see it by browsing to Settings → [Plex Web] → General. It will differ based upon how you’re accessing it (local IP vs app.plex.tv).

Since you’re using a Mac-based server, try this.

Navigate to Settings → [Server Name] → Transcoder. Uncheck the option "Use hardware-accelerated video encoding. Then restart Plex Media Server.

There’s a known issue with recent versions where hardware encoding can cause failures if transcoding is needed.

Also, that web app version is the embedded one. You may want to try the hosted version at app.plex.tv, which is on version 4.152.0 currently.

Well dang. Sorry, I’m out of ideas, other than to perhaps provide your server logs (debug enabled, verbose disabled) of a failed live TV streaming session. You can click that orange link to see how to collect the logs.

My initial assumption was that it’s a transcoder failure, but you’re on the stable server version (the beta has some known issues).

If you haven’t tried it, the native Plex Desktop app for Mac might be worth testing, to see if perhaps it’s a client issue:

Here I can only test with an M2 MacBook Air using an HDHomeRun Flex 4K tuner. This environment requires that the above setting be disabled which is why I suggested that. In your region, with that tuner, you may have different issues.

its weird that I can only find 2 channels that are working and I have two tuners on the Vbox. Im going to restart it. I really have no idea why this is happening :man_shrugging:

Same problem with native Mac Player

So strange that BBC 2 HD and Channel 4 stream fine but none of the other channels stream at all

Got it all sorted now. Plex works great with VBox Satellite tuner.
