'Interlacing' artifact on Amazon Fire TV

The plug first: The PLEX DVR with HDHR Extend is great. I wish I could set up recording from the client screen vs. my office PC, but we’ll survive. Big paradigm shift when cutting the cable.

Now the problem: Viewing recorded programs on a 4K Samsung TV using a Roku or the TV itself produced watchable video. I swapped the Roku Premiere + for an Amazon Fire TV (because I wanted to try Kodi and HDHR live tv), and the same episode of an OTA episode produced interlace-like lines when there was something moving fast. Stationary and slowly moving objects were fine. But something like a hand wave produced interlace lines only on the object moving. Is this an artifact introduced by the Fire TV? This is all new to me so I may not be able to answer deep techie questions.

I think it’s a known issue, due to the internal android tv video player. Some people use SPMC (modified KODI for android) and the Kodi plex add-on, but I still isn’t perfect.

Thanks. It’s noticeable but not show-stopping. I can live with it.

+1 I am seeing the same thing on my 1080p Panasonic TV with Fire TV. Watching Racing is really painful. It’s direct play with 1080 resolution but there are tons of interlace lines and the cars are really blurry. Still and slow panning shots look great but fast action (like cars racing) looks blurry with tons of interlace lines. Transcoding is off when saving. Using plex server for Mac OSX Version 1.7.2.3878
