Intermittent issues with Plex Media Server update using desktop

Hi, every now and then, an upgrade using the ‘Install Update’ from the Server settings on the desktop/web (Safari) version seems to fail.
The pattern seems to be that the update will look like it completed successfully but when I launch PMS from the dock, it opens up a browser tab right away instead of just launching the PMS app.

When I log in with my Plex account, the server is unavailable and I’m forced to go into the Activity Monitor and end all of the Plex processes and restart the PMS app.

After I do this, it works normally again.

Any crash reports (I have the option to send ticked on) that may be helpful?
Anyone else experience this?

I’m on a Mac Mini (Late 2012) quad core 2.3 ghz with High Sierra 10.12.6 and 16 GB ram.
