Intro detection taking forever

Server Version#: 1.20.1.3252
Player Version#: 4.34.4

I have gone through the forums and can’t seem to find a solution. I have tried everything that has already been listed by others such as unticking the disable video stream transcoding box, checking conversations is paused, checking if there are updates available, checking permissions, restarting plex from the package centre, changing the time the scheduled tasks run at and I still can’t figure out what the issue is. I recently added a couple season of Pokemon and for the last few days it has been sitting at less than 5% of intro detected.

Hey thanks for the quick response to this, but as I had mentioned in my original post, I had already checked permissions and didn’t see any issues. Please see screenshot for the permission of the tmp_transcoding folder.

Sorry I am unsure of which folder you mean when you wrote “media folder” in step 2

This may take some time for me to reset all the media folders. I will get started on it now.

If the problem is with tmp_transcoding folder, how does resetting permissions on the media folder affect that?

Oh sorry I somehow misread that line before. I have already started to reset the permissions, but as I said before it will take sometime. Once it is done I will test and respond.

Sorry another thing I forgot to mention is, when I was checking the console for what the issue was I had also noted that EAE was failing to read a file which was not in the directory it stated it was. There was 2 other files located in the directory though. Below is what shows up in the console when trying to watch one of the media files and the screenshot below shows you what is actually inside the folder.

[Transcoder] [eac3_eae @ 0x2252740] EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder? Could not read '/volume1/Plex/tmp_transcoding/pms-0bb82d9f-548b-4351-b1aa-3c866d9cfe05/EasyAudioEncoder/Convert to WAV (to 8ch or less)/sp3vt1fgtmhmnzphx4kkd9q1_11640-0-3.wav'

It seems like the file that is being created has the incorrect extension. The console shows plex looking for a .wav file but a .ec3 file is being created instead?

Yes, I am just waiting for DSM to complete the permission updates and thought I would let you know of my own findings.

So the permissions are done and still having the same problem.

Often these EAE errors are indicative of running out of inotify watches (a setting indicating how many directories can be watched for changes at a time). This thread has some info on it: EAE timeout! EAE not running, or wrong folder?

If this is the issue, you need to increase this value, restart Plex, and try again.

Here are the logs obtained from step 1 attached

I will try the article you have also listed when I get back home later today.

I did not realise there was an issue with audio playback. I only just noticed the intro detection part just taking forever. Not sure if related to each other?

The image below has been like this since yesterday I think? Can’t remember when I last restarted plex
Capture4

I did mention on one of my previous posts that I noticed EAE issues when trying to watch one of the media files, not sure if you saw that?

After refreshing the page, the above image is still the same, I do have 1 season of pokemon that does not play but not sure if that is related to the intro detection issue.

I will try the article now that you linked previously and see if the intro detection still takes long.

Even if the intro detection has stopped because maintenance has stopped, it is still taking longer than it should to detect it. From what I read across the forums, most peoples intro detection only takes a few mins per episode where mine is taking hours for a few %

Is it normal for plex to take days to detect intros?

Also shall I start a new thread for the EAE errors that I seem to be getting more of?

Incase the answer to the above is no, I have attached logs. I restarted Plex, tried to analyze 1 season to do a manual scan for intro detection, checked console and saw all the EAE errors.

Also I just noticed that when I add a new media, it is not automatically picked up and added to Plex as it used to do before. I do have the options ticked as seen below

I have followed the article to try and increase the number of folders plex can monitor which you linked before and I don’t think it is working, when checking the logs on synology it shows this…

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-09-05_16-45-27.zip (5.2 MB)

It is only doing 1 season which has roughly 50 episodes

I have followed everything you have said up to this point

After performing the task on the article you linked, that is what they have to do with it.

In this article it said to run a script as a task and restart DSM. After doing that, this is what shows up in the logs. I was only telling you what I can see from my side thinking giving more information might help with something. Maybe I should stop giving you extra information that you don’t ask for. I will leave this thread and start another as now we are going onto something that is not related to why I originally started this.

I wasn’t forcing any maintenance, I only hit analyze on 1 season which starts intro detection. I have no idea why butler is doing a schedule 7.3 hours later.
