iOS 15.3 Plex App direct play issues

Server Version#: 1.25.5.5492
Player Version#: 7.28.1

Hello, I’ve had an issue start recently where the iOS app cannot direct stream files, I believe it should be.

Video :(h.264) in a mkv
Audio: EAC3

I am seeing the below log output repeating until it ultimately fails to create a playback session, I can get around this by changing from “original quality” to “convert automatically”

These are the logs when it stops trying to create the playback session and I click the play button to start it up again.

When I switch to “convert automatically” everything works. I’d expect it to be a light transcode for plex, converting the container from mkv to mp4/m4v for iOS, since the h.264 and eac should both support direct playback, but iOS doesn’t work with mkv.

This happens on both the ‘new player’ and the ‘old player’ in the iOS app.

Did I just get really unlucky with the h.264 encode and it is using some settings iOS doesn’t support
