iOS 26 can’t download unless on the same wifi

I’m on holiday in a place I regularly go with excellent wifi and mobile signal and cannot download to my iPhone. I have been doing this for the longest time and when I upgraded to iOS 26 I just get errors. I downloaded some stuff at home before I left while on my home wifi which my server is on and it was just fine. It only seems to be with the over the net downloads. Anybody else had the same issue? Or not even?

Does your server show as having an indirect connection? Downloads are not allowed on an indirect connection.

No it’s the same as it always has been. Only the iOS has changed. There are also some playback issues when streaming but I figure an app update will fix that

Thanks for reporting this problem. I’ve filed it internally as I’m able to repro it as well. I don’t have an ETA on when this will be resolved but I will do my best to follow up here once a fix lands.

Thank you!!

Did you also see my note about playback being problematic too? It crashes and goes back to the same spot despite restarting and getting to a new part. It’s like it only remembers the first place it stopped and not future ones :smiling_face_with_sunglasses:

Okay so after looking at your downloads more and trying to figure out why it wouldn’t work, one frustrating thing I noticed (at least in my case) is that at some point “Wi-Fi only” got set on my device under download settings. However, we do not handle this very gracefully on iOS. Instead of adding an item to the queue at the bottom in downloads, it just outright fails. :expressionless: After missing that really obvious step, I’m not seeing any problems on my side with iOS 26.

So a couple of things I’d recommend here for your downloads issue:

  1. (this seems obvious but check!) In your downloads settings, make sure “Wi-Fi Only” is not checked. I’ve filed an issue to improve that process flow / communication on the app so that I can save other people from the same headache.
  2. As someone else pointed out, make sure you have a direct connection to your server and it is accessible. If it is going through Plex’s relay, it will not work. Remote playback will work over relay at lower quality, but a download will fail.

I’d say if you still run into problems, if you can provide app logs and plex server logs, I can try to open up a more specific issue.

Regarding your playback issue of resetting and crashing, I imagine if it’s crashing it losing it’s place could happen  An app log for that would be good as the crash (obviously) isn’t great.

In both cases what version of the app you are running would be helpful too. If you are not currently on 2025.25.0 I would go to the app store and update just to double check we didn’t accidentally fix it first. :crossed_fingers:

I have 2025.24.0 That is all the App Store will give me. I didn’t have wifi only set.

I have tried changing the wifi only setting and used both cellular and wifi to try and download but still get the relay connection error. As I previously said it works fine when I download at home on my wifi but not since updating to iOS 26 for when I download on my phone away from home. I was using the beta version and hoped it would resolve itself when the official iOS26 came out but it didn’t.

I’m still in the same place. I appreciate your looking into this. I have been a happy Plex user for- ever and never had this problem before so I naturally thought it was iOS specific. I could download on wifi or cellular from anywhere but now only on my home wifi which is what my Plex server is on. Nothing has changed on the computer it is running on. Everything is constant.

I’ve been checking everything. It does say indirect. However I’ve never set a port for public access before and I have downloaded to my phone on both cellular and wifi before. I tried designating a port for public access on this issue and killed all remote access. I used teanviewer to put it back how it was and it’s back to where it was. Maybe I wait until I return home to sort this out. Your advice was very helpful :folded_hands:
