Server Version#: 1.31.0.6654
Player Version#: 8.15
I am running the Plex app v8.15 on an iPad Mini but it does not connect to the Plex Server. After multiple installs and re-installs, manually trying to connect the server and checking in the setting that the Local Network is enabled, it still shows that the Plex server is offline.
Some interesting things to note:
My wife has an iPod Touch running Player v8.14 and it connects without issue to the Plex server.
I loaded Plexamp on the same iPad Mini with the Plex Player having the issue and Plexamp can connect to the same Plex server without any issue.
When I install the Plex player on the iPad Mini, the Local Network setting does not appear in the Settings for Plex until after I try to manually connect the Plex server via the Advanced Settings in the Player even though it shows the Plex server in initial Player setup.
Is there a bug in v8.15 of the Player connecting to the Plex server and its content?
After many hours of trial and error, I believe I have found the issue with the Plex app v8.15 (and v8.16) on an iPad Mini with a wifi connection to the local network. The Plex app does not recognize the local Plex Server on the local network unless Remote Access is enable. Once enabled, the server is no longer offline to the iOS app and it can be seen and content can play. If disable the Remote Access, the server is still seen as online by the iOS app. However once I reboot Windows PC with the Plex Server with Remote Access disabled, the iOS app no longer sees the server. The only way to fix is to temporarily re-enable and then disable remote access. I prefer to not have remote access enabled and only have the Plex Server be available for players on the local network.
This is not happening with any of my other Plex player apps. Why is this happening with just this iOS app? How can this be fixed? Thank you!
One additional item to confirm the iPad Mini iOS version of Plex is going over the remote access: Whenever I do something on Plex on the iPad Mini, it shows as the Remote on the Bandwidth Dashboard. Again, any thoughts on why the iPad Mini iOS version of Plex is using Remote access to access the local Plex Server instead of the local access on the local network?
Sorry for the delay in replying. Yes. I have Local Network enabled on the iPad Mini’s version of Plex.
It looks like you are checking from an iPod. Please note on my version of the Plex settings screen compared to the one above, I don’t have Notifications settings and Allow Tracking options. I have tried from an iPod and it works correctly. It is only on the iPad Mini that I have this issue.
HI. Quick checking back if anyone at Plex may know on what may be causing this or is this a bug in the current Plex server or iPad Mini Plex Player code?
Hi. I just applied the latest Windows server build of Version 1.32.2.7100. This server looks to have resolved the Plex access issue from the iPad Mini. I am assuming from the server release notes that the iPad Mini was using IPv6 to access the server which until this update was not considered local for bandwidth allocation purposes. Thanks for updating, but it would have been nice for someone at Plex to at least to acknowledge the issue in this thread (more than just asking if local network option was enabled.)
