IOS player crashes on minimize and reopen

When I am playing a video in the IOS Plex player app and I swipe out/go to home page while the video is playing it pauses as usual.

However, when I go back one of three things happens:

  1. The app freezes then crashes
  2. The video kind of freezes then looks like all white with some splotches of color where movement happens
  3. It plays normally

This is an extremely common occurrence for me and I’ve seen other people on Reddit report this.

Sorry I am uncomfortable sharing debugging reports but that shouldn’t be a problem since it’s a very common occurrence from what I hear. I just wanted to make sure Plex knows of this.

I’ve just tried several times to reproduce this, but have been unable to. Without the logs, I’m afraid it’ll be almost impossible to track this down if we can’t reproduce. Do you have any additional information?

Dave I appreciate the quick response and your help. I was immediately able to record and reproduce the second situation as described above; however, I was unable to reproduce the crashing. Next time it crashes I will share the appropriate logs.

I can’t reproduce that at all. Can you provide any more technical information, like is this transcoded, direct play, the video details, etc.? This would be much easier with logs (there’s nothing particularly sensitive in them, and you can DM them if you prefer), but without them, it’s quite hard to sort this out, I’m afraid.

I’ve DMed you the logs with more info. Also just had it crash again.

My girlfriend is also getting this on her iPhone, 100% repro. I can’t get it on mine. I can get logs from her phone later tonight if that helps.

@bothari I can’t reproduce this, so just trying to collect a bit more information. You said that this issue occurs on your girlfriend’s phone but not yours? Is that on the same server? Would you mind sharing which model of phone you’re both using?

I have the exact same issue on my iPhone 12 as well… Please let us know what you guys find out.

I am having the same issue as others here. My server is hosted on Unraid and is running version: 1.24.5.5173.

I also just reinstalled the Plex app on my iPhone 12 Pro Max and it is running version 7.24.1 on iOS 15.2

I am happy to provide my logs, I just need a refresher on how to get them.

Sorry for not getting back; it stopped happening when she got a new phone. We were on the same server, and my phone was not having the issue. She was using an iPhone 12+ at the time, I was on an iPhone 11+.
